“Renovations and Staff outstanding”
Reviewed August 14, 2011

This was our fourth year going to Sea Crest and we had a great time! We were meeted with a cheerful friendly David Murray at the front desk. He explained everything about the new changes, where to eat and other helpful pointers. The two other couples that we went to Sea Crest with also thought David was very nice and we all made sure to say good bye to him at the end of our stay.
Clark Guinn the new GM was also astute to everything going on at the beach hotel and was always asking if things were good. We saw his presence very often all around the hotel.
We enjoyed our stay with the two other couples and all the kids and did meet another couple with children while we were there and will try to book the same time with them next year. We also plan on extending our stay by one more night!! Thanks Sea Crest, especiallly David Murray, Clark Guinn and Tom Forend for going above and beyond for us! My daughter who was 4 also liked the crafts in the pool area!

After a comparatively dismal 2010, Sea Crest's new owners closed the entire hotel from October 2010 to June 2011 for some much-needed renovations.

Service was markedly improved. Last season the hotel ran on a bare-bones staff and every aspect of the stay reflected that. This is no longer a problem; everyone was cheerful and helpful.

Buildings #3 and #4 were completely renovated. The bathrooms are a little smaller but now sparkling new and clean. The smaller bathroom means the room is larger: the extra space features a nice countertop (where the coffee maker is now located) and larger fridge; a great place to store snacks. Rooms now have nice flat-screen TVs and generally feel cleaner and larger; Windows/doors to the terraces have been completely replaced; doors now swing outward, allowing even more room in the room. AC units remain as before but at least now were clean and non-musty.

The glass-and-aluminum corridor that once connected buildings 2-7 is gone; a new open-air walkway replaces it. That will be a bit of a bummer during stormy weather but is an improvement nonetheless.

Outdoor pool is now saline and has a new enclosure, and there's now an outdoor hot tub (only seats 4-8, though). Pool saw a lot more use than before. Surface is unchanged and still hurts people's feet.

Indoor pool was remarkably clean & fresh. Both pools (and the beach) are now swim-at-your-own risk.

The towel problem has been solved through the use of towel coupons. You get one laminated towel voucher per guest on checkin, can swap those for towels at the indoor pool, and return wet towels for a fresh towel or a voucher at any time. There were plenty of towels available for our entire stay.

Red's replaces Oscar's, and now features both take-out and eat-in service (the menus are similar). New bathrooms added near the entrance of the indoor pool; game room moved to the location of the old weight room (still not enough air conditioning).

The space between buildings 3 and 4 was completely redone, and is now clean, tasteful, and inviting.

With additional staff, even the beach is cleaner; seaweed is swept up every morning.

In short, everything felt better and cleaner.

Outdoor sports such as tennis courts, basketball, and shuffleboard (which had been neglected for years anyway) have been retired.

Cons:

Food prices went from "very high" to "almost insane". The buffet breakfast (still the only breakfast option) jumped from $16 to $18, which means breakfast for five is about $100 including a modest tip. Dining area is completely renovated and the breakfast now includes made-to-order omelets, eggs, and Belgian waffles-- a great treat, but spending a third to a half of the cost of the room just on breakfast? Wow. A soda at the Red's take-out is $3.00.

The new location of the bar means better views at the outdoor pool, but it also means that bar patrons now occupy many of the nearby tables that you'd ordinarily use to eat your take-out lunch. You can now bring food into either pool area, but without tables to eat from this is really inconvenient (not to mention potentially messy), especially with kids.

Many renovations are incomplete. Indoor pool's locker rooms were a disgrace last year; this year much of it (including the sauna, steam room, and showers) was simply boarded up. New signs at the pool mistakenly indicate that you can't use any facilities after 11:00am on the day of your departure (fortunately, the front desk disagrees with this). Fortunately, for those taking a dip in the pool or beach on their last day, there's now an outdoor shower at the outdoor pool -- otherwise there'd be no place to rinse off before the ride home!

Some buildings have not been renovated (yet). Indoor pool's nearly-impossible-to-walk-on surface was coated with epoxy, which reduces the "ouch" factor somewhat; what would have been even better would have been something like indoor-outdoor carpeting. Despite upgrades I still found plenty of burned-out lights (I was hoping they'd have fixed the lights in the pools!).

Overall: A great start on much-needed renovations; a greatly improved overall feel; terrific service. We decided last year that we'd give Sea Crest "one more chance", and they didn't disappoint us. We'll be back.

I was interested in attending the Harvard Medical School conference this August since I could get CEU's while enjoying some needed vacation time. The conference was great and the hotel did a great job of providing breakfast and drinks to keep us going during the morning sessions. The hotel had a recent remodel (we were told) and I think we lucked out in being in the rooms adjacent to the hotel which seemed newer. Our room was comfortable yet close to everything. The hotel was right on the ocean with our own private beach area and both an indoor and outdoor pool. Some of the staff are worth noting--Michaela who checked us in and worked in the evenings. She was humorous and extremely helpful with getting our needs met. Melanie was also helpful with dinner recommendations. We were able to rent bikes right on the beach and were quite close to things. It is very private and safe. They do not allow anyone onto the grounds who isn't staying there or attending a conference. Their gym facilities could use improvement--one of the treadmills wasn't working during our stay and they did not have filtered water or a TV in the exercise area, although the view of the ocean was pretty magnificent. Loved that they offered a Saturday Zumba class which I took full advantage of and had a great time! Would definitely go again combining both business and pleasure!

Room Tip: We enjoyed our rooms (we were in 812) and never had noise problems. I think the rooms off the pool...

This resort hotel was recently renovated for around $10 Million and it shows. It's very tastefully designed and decorated. It's right on Old Silver Beach having clean, soft, fine sandy beach with clear water. There is a refrigerator in the room for convenience but no freezer.
Shanon and Mikaela at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful.
Many of the staff are from Eastern European countries and are very pleasant and helpful, always a smile on their faces.

The location alone would bring me back...but the newly renovated Sea Crest offers fabulous accommodations...it was hard to leave the beach front bar to go in for dinner...but the food at Reds while we watched the Ocean was outstanding! Pribably the best baked Oysters I have ever had. Jeff the Chef has done it up right!

We had stayed at Sea Crest years ago with family and watched the service and hotel fall into disrepair. So when we found out that Sea Crest was getting a facelift we were very excited to give it another try. My husband and I traveled with our two young children and my parents and were not disappointed. The rooms are beautiful and the service is phenomenal. One night at about 7pm my husband wanted to get an ice cream when he asked the front desk if there was any place he could get one she immediately went into the kitchen and came back with treats for everyone (at no charge). A different day it was raining in the morning so we were trying to decide what to do. The hotel had crafts for the kids in the indoor pool area that kept everyone entertained until the sun came out. That same night they showed "Nemo" at the pool on a big screen. We barely spent any time in our room. We no longer live in New England so this was a wonderful getaway to remind us why we love the Cape. Thanks for making this a wonderful trip. We will be back next year!!

I had reviewed the Seacrest last year, and gave it favorable marks largely due to location (fantastic beach), convienience (access to the beach without parking/driving), and the fact that it is a uniquely Cape Cod resort. I stand by all of this, but now with the improvements to the hotel complete, I felt compelled to follow up with a few new notes.

Although I travel frequently, and have been to the Seacrest a number of times over the last 10+ years, the most notable improvement is the overall service we received from the entire staff. I can't always say in the past that the attention to the customer service was this good, but it would be notable for almost any hotel to do as well as the Seacrest staff did during our recent visit. The bartenders and waitstaff get extremely high marks, but everyone else was certainly attentive and warm without being intrusive. The weekend we visited was very busy, and beach chairs were at a premium. It appeared that management went to a local store and bought more just to accomodate guests at some point during the day. Wow. They could have just apologized for running out, but they actively did something about it...that really struck me. The rennovations, especially the pool area, outdoor bar, and restaraunt, came out quite well.

Of course, there is always room for improvement (the rough surface in the outdoor pool steps, the pool gates that close a bit loudly, some interior hallways in the main building that look untouched) that other reviews touched on - and management responded to - so I won't revisit those topics here. I would add that we likely would have eaten at Red's more if the evening menu was a bit more expansive...but again, it is a huge improvement over the last few years. Also, having servers taking drink orders from the beach would have been a big plus...this was notably missing from the days of the "old" Seacrest.

At the end of the day, the beach trumps all. There are few places on the Cape where you can find a beach as nice as Old Silver, with the ammenities of a place like the Seacrest to enhance a great vacation spot. I already know we'll be back.

I agree – the beach trumps all. It is one of the absolute best on the Cape. I have to say, however, that what makes me most proud are your comments about our staff and service. We are in the hospitality business…paramount at all times for my team is providing hospitality – warm, caring, non intrusive service. I’m so glad we made the grade.

I agree that there are always improvements to be made. We are compiling a list of areas of the Hotel that need attention, and will continue on our quest to provide not only exemplary, memorable service, but a hotel where every area has been improved upon.

I look forward to seeing your review again after your next stay, and to meeting you in person.

My Best,

Clark Guinn
