“What a delight!”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

Can only add my sincere agreement to the many gushing reviews for the Inn on the Sound. We stayed here at the end of a US trip including stays in Chicago and Boston, so were looking for somewhere to relax and unwind. We certainly found it here, sitting on the balcony area of our Green Harbour room looking out across the water.

The owners were just wonderful, so hospitable and genuine in ensuring you have everything you need for a lovely stay - a well-stocked fridge of cold drinks, beach towels and chairs, tasty snacks on the counter, maps of Falmouth and Martha's Vineyard, and their own suggestions of the best restaurants to eat in. And topped off by a delicious breakfast each morning, with a different vegetarian 'daily special' to look forward to.

B&B itself was lovely. Room good size and very quiet, despite being adjacent to communal lounge area, and nice decor. This room had its own balcony, and there was also an outdoor deck where all guests could sit and enjoy their breakfast looking out at the water.

Location was perfect for a water view and short walk to the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Took about 20-25 minutes to walk into the main shops/restaurants in Falmouth, so factor this in when planning what time you'd like to eat (or you could drive in 5 mins). Old Silver Beach was a 10 minute drive away, and took about 90 minutes to get back to Boston airport.

We were really upset to finally have to leave! Cape Cod was a delight, and will definitely plan to stay at the Inn on the Sound when we return to the Cape in the (I hope) not too distant future.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days at the end of August while attending a wedding in Woods Hole. We do not like resorts and thus have a bias towards the more intimate environs of inns such as this. The compromise that entails, however, is typically being willing to live with less than 5-star amenities. To our pleasant surprise, there is no such sacrifice required at Inn on the Sound. The amenities exceed 5-star expectations due largely to the numerous "finishing touches" that are graciously added by the owners. The gourmet breakfasts are quite unique (with a southwestern flair) and the various quiet sitting areas are private yet accomdated with attentive wait service. Our room was lovely, facing the sound with a balcony offering both sunrise and sunset views. We would recommend this Inn without qualification and would certainly stay there again if we ever find ourselves in the vicinity. Kudos to the owners whose pride in their venture is obvious and commendable.

There is too much to explain why this inn is so lovely!!! The room? With its amazing view of the water, the beautiful decor, comfortable bed. The amenities? Make up removal towel, a seperate full bathroom just for guests POST checkout, beach bag, towels and chairs! Could it be the the owners? Their recommendations were unsurpassed (the glass onion) the thought alone that went into all listed amenities and services, their kindness (4 highlighted maps to make sure we didn't get lost) Maybe its the breakfast dish of the day? Thats on top of an already lovely spread. I think it may be their beautiful cat who is deaf and no longer roams the coast but helps give guests that extra at home feel.

Spent 2 wonderful nights at Inn on the Sound in Falmouth MA. Be sure to get one of the ocean view rooms - it is an incredibly view. The inn is beautiful, very well decorated, and is exceptionally clean and well maintained. The breakfasts are delicious and creative. It is a short walk to the marina. Would highly recommend this lovely inn.

If you're visiting the Cape, the Inn on the Sound is a terrific B&B from which to base your stay. It's located on the water in Falmouth (albeit across the road from the ocean). The rooms are very well appointed and many have balconies on which to sip a glass of wine and enjoy the view. Breakfast is always great and Jan and Howard do a terrific job with the entire experience. My wife and I have stayed several times and have never been disappointed. Within easy walking distance is a public beach (Falmouth has the warmest water on the Cape). Across the street from the beach is the British Beer Company, an English-pub bar and restaurant. You can literally park your car at the Inn and walk to anything you need.

Room Tip: A room with a balcony is always nice.

As late-in-life honeymooners, we were looking for some well-deserved pampering. We knew we were at the right place when Howard, (with our permission) seized the luggage and dashed up the stairs to our room. The room, overlooking the Sound, met all of our expectations and then some. There were touches of thoughtfulness and luxury everywhere we looked. We took home some great ideas for decorating our new condo. Janet's superb breakfasts were unforgettable, and her advice about getting around the neighborhood was spot on.

After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor we had set incredibly high standards for the Inn on the Sound and every one of those expectations was surpassed. Howard and Janet were gracious hosts, the gourmet breakfasts were delicious, the location was ideal and the view from our room, the Silver Harbor room, was spectacular. The room itself was spacious, but the ability to retire on the deck with a view of Martha's Vineyard was a trip highlight in itself. Speaking of the island, if you are heading over ask Janet for the highlights and lowlights as she was straight forward and it saved us a great deal of time. I'd like to be critical of something, but I honestly have nothing bad to say about our three night stay. We would go back in a heart beat.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view with a deck if possible. It's well worth it.
