“An excellent summer theatre”

The College Light Opera Company

We saw Les Miserables at the College Light Opera Company. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The cast of young college student performers was amazing-- really strong, beautiful voices. The acting, orchestra, set design, costumes, and direction were all first rate and, frankly, much better than we were expecting from what we thought would be an amateur summer stock company at the Highfield Theatre. We would have preferred amplification but actually each actor had such a strong voice it was not much of an issue. If every production is like this one, you will have a great time.

This is my third year with season tickets. Last night was "White Horse Inn". A thoroughly enjoyable musical which was very well done. It looks like another great season. Too bad the venue can't be improved. The seating is like a middle school auditorium in the 1950's. Horrible! Falmouth should do better......

My husband and I began going to CLOC productions in the early 1970s. In those days, all the performers were from Oberlin College, and the shows were mainly Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. The productions were enthusiastic and fun, but definitely on the level of good college productions, with only a few really strong performers. Fast forward to six or seven years ago when we went again and were astounded at the strength of the entire company of singers, dancers, and musicians (yes, there's a live orchestra), now drawn from colleges and graduate programs across the country. I've seen touring professional productions that weren't as good. In addition, the repertoire, though the season still includes at least one G&S operetta, is far more diverse, ranging from "Oklahoma" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" to "Die Fledermaus." What an incredible bargain at $30 per ticket! Order your tix in March or April--they go fast!

We have 3 seasons of season tickets and these productions get us acquainted with high quality long running broadway shows of the older variety. These a wonderful well rehearsed weekly productions.

Full Disclosure: I was a member of the Company in the summer of 1971, and the producers are long-time friends.

I sat in the house for the first time this year, and I can say honestly that the experience was great! CLOC is a very professional company, and the soloists were excellent. Definitely recommended for a night of musical theater. Obviously, not Broadway, but high-class semi professional.

Theater is comfortable and intimate. Patio refreshments available before curtain and during intermission. Air conditioned. Plenty of parking. Close to downtown Falmouth.

A great night out!

Only reason they don't get five stars is because I reserve those for Piaf, Pavarotti, and Sutherland.
