“Great ride, good location”

Dock is close to downtown Falmouth. We were staying at another Innseason Resort so were we parked at Harborview (just down the street) for free. This ferry doesn't run late so if you want to do dinner on MV, you will have to come back on Steamship Authority, which only droops off in Jackson Hole. The 2 ferry docks are about 5 miles apart so you will need to grab a cab or take one of Steamship's shuttles out to the remote parking and walk the remainder of the way back to your original departure point.

“If you have skin cancer, stay away from this ferry service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2012

Ferry service from Falmouth, MA to Oak Bluffs, MA we had to wait in the blistering sun for the boat to arrive in Falmouth (there is very little shade, which is immediately claimed by the first to arrive), but in once in Oak Bluffs, there is ZERO shade provided by this company. The ferry was 30 minutes late and there are benches on their dock, but not one single employee to be found to keep us updated about the delay, or one tarp or bit of shade to wait under. The dock is at least 300 yards from the closest shop and there is a line to get aboard the boat, first come first serve so you can't wait then make a run for the boat. It is MISERABLE. By the way, I have grown up in Falmouth so am familiar with this ferry service, but now that I'm in my 50's, there is no way I'd recommend it or ever take it again because my skin can't handle the sun while I wait for them.

, General Manager at Island Queen Ferry, responded to this review, July 9, 2012
Hello Davan. When we receive a review such as yours we take our passenger comments to heart and with great concern. As your experience with us was during the first week of July that includes the July 4th holiday, I cannot excuse our 30-minute delay you experience except to say that of all weeks during our season the first week of July is one of the most crowded weeks. We do our very best to remain as close to schedule as possible during this peak holiday week, but the number of passengers with bicycles and luggage increases the time necessary to embark and disembark passengers safely. The remainder of season we are able to remain on or within a few minutes of our departure schedule, barring weather related conditions.

Regarding your exposure to the sun, we recently installed two very large retractable awnings for our Falmouth boarding area in order to provide additional protection from the sun, from which the feedback we have received has been extremely positive. The dock in Oak Bluffs however is owned and operated by the Town of Oak Bluffs and we are one of several ferries operating from that dock. We urge you to share your thoughts with the Town of Oak Bluffs as we would all love to see a shelter of some fashion provided at the dock for passengers. We hope you will give us another try this season and I welcome you to say hello to me personally when you arrive. (Todd Bidwell, General Manager)

“Quickest trip to the Vineyard”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2012

Staying in Falmouth proved to be a delight when we could walk from our motel (The Mariner).. Less than 5 minutes and we were there-no hassles with cars etc.
Ferry service is right into Oak Bluffs, nice drop off area and good hours.
