Went with family and had a great time at this restaurant. The atmosphere is intimate and chic; the service (ask for Rich) was outstanding! And the food was REALLY, REALLY good. One thing to watch is the portion sizes - they are pretty big!

If you want a fried seafood dinner, you will find it here. The fried seafood platter my husband ordered was huge. But I ordered stuffed salmon. The salmon was OK, but the stuffing had a funny taste and I didn't eat it. The veggies were canned carrots (mushy), and new potatoes in a tomato sauce.

Our friends took us to lunch for some local, authentic, delicious fried seafood plates. We were all so pleased with our selections. Amongst us we had clam cakes, stuffed clams, fried shrimp, clams, scallops, and haddock. Luncheon portions were generous. Sides were fine, but took second place next to the wonderful, moist, tender, sweet, fresh and delicious fruits of the sea. Friendly greetings, family owned and staffed, obvious pride, not much else to say. It was a terrific lunch. Great value compared to prices we've seen around New England seatowns this summer. They are not a waterfront locale. Maybe that's the difference. We paid for the food and not a view. But we were not disappointed! Cannot comment on desserts...too full to consider them.

WE have been to Mermaids a few times. Luncheon were excellent for the price. Nothing on the menu is creative, just the everyday fried and grilled items. My one complaint is the Tuesday senior discount advertised on the placemat. You should not jump thro the ropes to get it. Asked about it the first time and was refunded 10% on the food, but nothing on the coffee or sodas. No reason given. Other problems with the discount on other visits. Now they have lost me as a weekly customer.

We've given Mermaids a few tries and each time have found the atmosphere noisy and cramped and the service rushed. If you order an appetizer be sure to tell them not to bring your meal until you are done or everything will arrive at the same time. Food is good and fresh but not outstanding as compared to other Fairhaven seafood restaurants.
