“Grat seafood, casual dining”

Essex is known for it's clams. This little spot offers great food at good prices. The lobster rolls have nice chunks of lobster mixed lightly with mayo on a toasted roll. Just how it should be. You also get a good portion of fries or onion rings with it. The fried seafood is always pefectly cooked.
This is a very low key, casual dining experience. You order your food at the counter and they call you when it's ready. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

“Good year 'round..........”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2012

We live locally and have watched the word on Essex Seafood spread to the tourist world over the past couple of years. Though prices have inched up(where haven't they?) this place still offers one of the best local values in terms of food quality and quantity. There's stiff competition in the area as many reviewers have pointed out but it remains on the top of our fried food likeability list. With its growing popularity, you may want to get there before 5:30 during peak season as a wait for seating is becoming more common(there are also outdoor tables but bring the bug spray if you get there after dusk). If you're looking for that perfect ambiance, keep looking, but if you like a basic northshore fried food dish that's consistently good and priced right, stop in. I'd also recommend a winter visit when portions grow further still and the food couldn't be fresher.

when it comes to seafood this is the place in Essex to go. It's cheaper then most of the otherseafood restaurants around with plenty to eat. Forget Woodman's it's a tourist trap BIGTIME

“Fantastic Clams & Scallops”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2012

Essex was our go-to destination for fried clams & baked scallops until we discovered Charlie's, closer to home. Essex Seafood is still a highly recommended stop -- we insist that its fried seafood is better than Woodman's! It *also* has a small seafood market; you can watch fishermen drop off their afternoon catch and buy it moments later. Nothing could be fresher. Like Charlie's, Essex Seafood has cod cheeks, my husband's favorite; but Charlie's does not offer clam bakes, where Essex does. Not an elegant site, but roomy & pleasant.

“Basic, but good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2012

For a road-side seafood place, Essex Seafood delivers solid quality without the hype of other places on Cape Ann. It's simply good food. Don't go looking for seared salmon though - they have the fried classics.
