“Still the best”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

Having lived in the area in the 80's/90's, we are familiar with the place and the other choices in Essex. This place is great. Yes, the new owners changed the menu, but it's good, and you can still order the traditional fish and chips, and they are to die for. None better anywhere in the US or the UK for that matter.

“Delightful”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

I went with friends on Father's Day awhile ago. The food is acceptional, the staff was wonderful. The view of the river was lovely. It's a pleasant place to go. The ride to there on Rte 133 is very scenic.

“Yummy waterside dining”

Loved everything. Lobster, fried clams, fried oysters. Chocolate lava cake was fabulous. Key Lime Mousse was tasty but soupy. Broccoli was undercooked, baked potato was perfect. View was lovely, service was great.

“Wonderful food with a view!”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

Restaurant is now called Sheas on the River. Last night was the first time I was there. We made a reservation, so we had no wait. We sat at a table overlooking the river and watched all the boats come in. The restaurant is small and it was crowded, but there is some good acoustical tile in the ceiling so it's not noisy at all.

They serve homemade bread which was absolutely wonderful! Warm and dense and yummy with herbed butter. We started with baby spinach salad with blueberries, blue cheese, and almonds with a balsamic reduction. It was a wonderful salad; nice and light and easily shared as a first course. Three of us had the mahi mahi with grilled pineapple and coconut reduction, broccolini, and rice pilaf. They said it was fantastic! Nice and fresh and a good sized piece of fish. Another in our party had the haddock which was also well prepared and plentiful. I had the mussels cooked in garlic butter (an appetizer which I got as my entree). A couple dozen mussels, small and sweet. The broth was great for dipping the homemade bread! We saw some lobster mac and cheese and a huge piece of swordfish go by our table; everything looked really good!

Everyone was very friendly. Our waitress was quick and attentive. Drinks arrived promptly, water glasses were refilled, and although it was crowded and there was a wait, we never felt rushed. The meal came to approximately $40 per person. I would definitely go again!

“Food not as good as it used to be!”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

Everything on the menu is a bit more than online menus. I had the fish tacos (14$) Tasted nice, but very little for the price, two 1cm x 1cm x4 cm bits of fish! The Wife's Mussels were obviously re-heats, very small and tough, but broth was delicious. Will try it once more as its on a nice spot. Service was good.
I would recommend, but not the fish tacos.
