The charlotte inn is a nice little hotel in a beautiful island. Marthas Vineyard is one of the most beautiful islands in the world and the Charlotte inn is right where you want to be. Right in the center of edgartown. The rooms are wonderful, but for the price id except some room service. There is a wonderful display in the back which id suggest you take a look at. Its very stuffy though. They would not have let me in the resteraunt with jeans even though i was staying there! We went to Atria instead which was wonderful. I reccomend i

We stayed for six nights after Labor Day. The hotel seemed full. The staff are uniformly efficient and welcoming and the hotel is very well kept, considering particularly the amount of silverware, silver plate and polished wood. Our room occupied the top floor of one of the houses and had windows on all four sides. The room was very comfortable and had all the expected amenities as well as some unexpected ones, like a largeish refrigerator and what appeared to be a working stove. Naturally there is also a large hotel dog, an elderly Golden Retriever in this case, who regards every guest as her New Best Friend. We can endorse everything complimentary about the quality of the furniture and furnishings and the tastes of the owners.

We ate breakfast in the hotel each day and enjoyed the food and service. At night the dining room was rather quiet. We ate there twice, once on our first evening after a long journey from Europe, and on our last night, when the Island was whipped by the tail of a tropical storm. On the first occasion we found the service rather tentative, almost nervous. On the second, we thought it somewhat distant. Maybe the fact that there were few diners made the difference between this and the other, much louder, more confident restaurants we visited nearby.

The hotel's location is marvellous. It is only a few yards from what passes as the main street in Edgartown and so within walking distance of practically everything one wants to get to. We had a car which was convenient for our trips around the Island and to Chappaquidick, but we understand that in summer a car would just be a nuisance. Far better, if one has a car, to leave it at the car park at the Ferry on the mainland, use a taxi to get to the hotel and once established at the hotel, to walk and use buses.

We can thoroughly recommend this hotel and would like to stay there again.

We were there for 5 days and the hotel was very pleasant. The room I booked was a little small but I knew that before I booked it. It had a nice porch overlooking a flower garden and a private entrance. We ate one evening meal at the hotel and that was excellent. They made us dinner reservations for the other nights .We ate at Atria and Alchemy. Very nice meals. Charoltte Inn was a block from main street but still very Quiet. We did not take a car and were fine. The bus was very easy to use and would do the same thing again.

This place is lovely and elegant, with outstanding services and beautifully appointed rooms. Unique, antique-filled rooms, sumptious bedding, afternoon tea on tea on the verandah and breakfast in the garden. But I must admit it felt a formal for what I think of as a laid back island that's typcially informal and casual.

One odd quirk is the strict "no cell phone" rule. And they mean anywhere on the property. Presumably, one could use a cell phone or blackberry in their room, but in my case there was no service. And don't expect anything high tech like internet or wi-fi.

There is no doubt the rooms and service are top notch, but you get what you pay for. As lovely as it is, it was also breathtakingly expensive. Still, I would consider returning. It would be worth the splurge for a luxurious romantic getaway or a very special celebration.

We stayed at this Inn over the 4th of July last year. We have a house on the Island but our house was rented. We had booked our stay because we wanted to see an oil painting demonstration by one of the artists carried by the Edgartown Art Gallery, which is owned by the Inn and is one of the best art galleries on the island. The entire inn and grounds are romantic and refined with tasteful beauty throughout. Our room was perfect, and the staff is quite attentive and accomodating. The inn has a distinctive English decor that is well suited to the elegant feel of the place. There is no detail that is overlooked here. Everything is very clean; the staff is constantly polishing handrails and brass fixtures. The inn offers an afternoon tea on the porch with its well appointed and comfortable furniture. There are rules that may not be for everyone, but are designed for the comfort of all the guests. For example, no cell phones. I can tell you how peaceful it is not to have some inconsiderate person carrying on a loud cell phone conversation around every corner. The restaurant is only a couple of years old (the original moved down the street), but the dining experience was exceptional, as everything is at this premier property. Gery and Paula Conover are very friendly and accessible, and seem very concerned about the comfort of their guests. We purchased a painting (the one done in the demonstration) that was still wet, and we were leaving first thing in the morning. Gery took the time to specially wrap the painting himself and had it ready for us at 7:00 am. We did not have time for breakfast, and the Inn's staff offered to get us something to go. This is the kind of treatment that makes a place special. This is a first class property in every respect. If you choose to stay at an inn on the Vineyard, treat and pamper yourself -- stay at the Charlotte Inn.

I stayed at the Inn several years ago and wouldn't go back. It is very beautiful and extremely well maintained....however~ you are made to feel as though you are trespassing in a museum. I personally do not find this relaxing. Of course, it is understandable that the owners would want to protect their "things" but they miss the whole point of having a beautiful Inn. They have created an enviornment which could be welcoming and enchanting and instead, because of the attitude of the owners and staff do just the opposite. It is truly such a waste. The cost isn't even the issue (but it is expensive), why would you want to subject yourself to that kind of treatment?
