Good food, atmosphere and great bar with interesting beers. Nice quiet place to sit and talk. Nice sidestreet in Edgartown.

It was a cold and windy night, and they seated us just inside from the vestibule where the hostess stand is, so every time someone opened the outside door (which was every 17 seconds or so), there was a blast of cold air across our table. We asked them to pull the curtain that separates the dining area from the vestibule, and they did, but every couple of minutes someone would open it again and we'd have to get up and pull it closed. So not off to a very impressive start.

My husband, who's a beer enthusiast, ordered the rack of 5 beers, which seemed to be a very good value and he really enjoyed all of them, so they have that going for them. But the food was just average. We had the fish and chips (OK but greasy) and the lobster mac and cheese (pretty good, but the lobster didn't really add that much except +$$$ to the price). Basically, it's just your average bar food. We'd go back again to drink, but we'd eat elsewhere.

Service was excellent, food was excellent, beer selection is expansive, prices reasonable. Neat atmosphere. Has a historic sea-captain feel about the place. I would get the fish & chips again. My wife had a broiled seafood dish (can't remember what) and said it was excellent, too.

When you walk into The Newes you feel like you have traveled back in time to when Martha's Vineyard was just a small whaling town. It has an old world charm. The food is better than your average pub fare. Fries and onion rings come in a large paper bag with the rim folded down several times. The wings are ok (could be crispier)' the onion soup is good. The burgers are very good along with most of the menu - really you are not going to be disappointed.

They have 6/7 beers on tap and always a few interesting or local choices. If you can't choose, you can get a sampling of 5 beers for $20 something I think. If you're "on island", definitely make this one of you dinner choices. Oh, no reservations.
