We have been going here for years. Food is excellent, fresh and a simple menu that they do well. Fried oysters are wonderful. We always meet someone fun and friendly at the downstairs bar. A little noisy but most restaurants are these days. Casual smart dress, not pretentious at all.

I have been on the Island all summer and my boyfriend and I have tried to go to a different restaurant every Friday night . After loving Atria, Sweet Life Cafe, and Chescas we were really excited to go to Alchemy on Friday, August 21st. We had a late lunch so by the time we came to Alchemy it was around 9pm, the restaurant was pretty busy and the atmosphere was great.

Thirty minutes after being seated upstairs we haven't even gotten out waters. When the waiter ( an older gentleman ) finally came over to our table he took our drink orders and immediately walked away. It took another 20 minutes (literaly) for 1 beer and 1 glass of white wine and we had to signal a busser over ourselves to ask for some water and bread... which turned out to be a small plate with 4 stale mini left-over pieces of baguette and a piece of butter. At 10pm we finally placed our order .. a chef's specialy salad for around $18 to share and a couple more drinks.

When the salad arrived a few minutes later we were literaly SHOCKED. The waiter brought over a small tin bowl (think dog water dish) with a pile of dry iceburg lettuce. On top of the lettuce was a spoonfull of mashed potatoes with 3 potatoe chips sticking out the top. Has anyone else ordered this salad ? I am just amazed that this is actually a menu item, a chef special!

We took a couple bites of our salad and left immediately. Our waiter completely ignored us , the food was disgusting and overpriced, and I can safely say this is the first restuarant in the Vineyard that I have been COMPLETELY dissapointed by.

We had a fantastic meal here! The food was delicious! The atmosphere is lively and fun! Our service was wonderful. There are two bars, one on the first floor and one on the second. There is also outdoor seating available. We will definitely be coming back on our next trip to MV!

Two friends and I dined at Alchemy on a recent Wed. evening in July. We received the worst service I had ever experienced in an upscale restaurant. Our waiter could not be bothered with us - no greeting, and we had to ask for everything - water, candle to be lighted (3 times on that one), more bread, more wine...we would have had more wine but we were sick of asking for everything. When my friend asked if she could have her halibut grilled (it was listed on the menu as "pan-fried"), our waiter replied that the kitchen was far too busy for special requests. If you're paying $38 for that piece of fish, he could have at least checked for her! He passed by us several times without asking about our meals or even making eye contact. Our food was good, but the menu was pretty unimaginative - the specials were boiled lobster and grilled scallops - lame choices for a restaurant in a fishing village! There are better restaurants to try in Edgartown and other parts of the island. Pakring is very difficult and it took me 40 minutes to find a parking space!
