Description: Located in the heart of downtown Edgartown, l'etoile offers a casually elegant dining and bar experience l'étoile is a vibrant modern restaurant located in a restored historic whaling captain's house on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Chef-owned & operated, our focus is on guest satisfaction. We offer an inventive, fresh, seasonally-driven menu along with similar lighter fare in the bar. dine in our contemporary, casually elegant dining rooms or outdoors on our festive tented patio. bar-l'étoile is a stylishly intimate and vibrant destination to enjoy a "Startini" or one of our many specialty cocktails or one of 18 wines by the glass before or after dinner. A seat at the lively bar or at your own high-top table - or the porch and adirondack chairs on the lawn in the summer - are the perfect place to have a drink, a relaxed meal or or small plate from the eclectic bar bites menu. our full dinner menu is also offered in the bar.

We had read the glowing reviews and had walked by and seen the Adirondack chairs on the lawn so we arrived a few minutes early to have a drink on the lawn. (Mistake #1- the promised service never appeared). Ultimately when seated (inside despite earlier intimations that outside would be available - Mistake #2) we ordered promptly and then waited over an hour before receiving even the first salad. During this period we discovered that they have only one unisex toilet for the whole restaurant, resulting in a line in the front hall. When it finally arrived, the food was fine, which one expects at these prices. The service was considerably less than stellar - inattentive especially in regard to winet.

Hard to believe there could be a better restaurant in the area. We loved the atmosphere/ambience and virtually everything we ate was exquisite. I thought the best dish was the lobster/steak (surf and turf - the lobster was perfectly prepared and the steak was NOT heavy - small slices which were delicious with vegetables and a few noodles in the middle. The trout was also very good - I tried my friends' halibut was was delicately prepared. Loved the cucumber soup and the spinach salad with bacon was great as well. Though normally we don't have dessert, we did share the flourless cake (mediocre) and a Macadamia Nut thing with salted caramel and chocolate mouse filling which was GREAT. Nice wine list too - overall, a top notch meal.

Beautiful surroundings in a most elegant tent. Quiet, extraordinary service, beautifully prepared food. The drinks are a knock out. My only minor issue: where's the French? No mention of any French prepared dish on the menu.

Our third time back and made new memories again with a fabulously prepared meal. Scallops cevechi done with care melted in the mouth with delightful flavors. Still on my mind was the main course of lobster, perfectly cooked, and plenty of it with pasta and a delicious sauce. My guy had the game hen and loved every bit too. Service is gracious and warm. Celebrating an anniversary meal with Champagne gifted by the inn and warm wishes by the staff made for a memorable evening we will treasure for a long time. Can't wait to return.

Probably the best chow in town. Strong local clientele. The dedicated chef produces excellent, well executed plates using the finest products. Dishes are well balanced and not overly done. Service is fine. The wine list is small, expected better, but there's enough to make it servicable. Don't expect the level you'll find in top places in NY or Europe, but excellent. Outside, on the patio, you'll need to deal with the odor from the scented candles they use to fend off mosquitos. I like the open feel of the patio, but the odor detracts from the dining experience. Highly Recommended
