This cast iron lighthouse which was built in 1881 originally stood at Crane Beach in Ipswich, Massachusetts but was moved to Edgartown in 1939 where it's been standing watch over the harbor and Chappaquiddick Island ever since. Over the years, sand filled in the area so that the lighthouse is now standing on a beach and it's a popular site for weddings and photographs. Be sure to take a moment to read the Martha's Vineyard Children's Lighthouse Memorial at the base of the lighthouse engraved with part of a poem by Tomas Napoleon called "A Remembrance of an Unforgotten Vineyard Summer" along with stones engraved with the names of children who have died.
