Owner description: The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. Major renovations completed in 2007, including installation of a staircase to the lantern room, allow the interior of the Edgartown Light to be open to visitors. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on North Water Street. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses drop off on Church Street in Edgartown. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the lighthouse from this location.

“brisk winds and a chappy view”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

Winter in New England can be harsh and the wind here can howl but if you enjoy sitting by a fire with a good book, the solitude and view are spectacular.

“Edgartown Lighthouse”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

When we travel, we love to visit places like this. Small in comparison to other lighthouses but the scenery and ease of getting to the lighthouse were worth the trip. The Edgartown Lighthouse is a must see for anyone visiting MV. The beaches are amazing, so far the best beaches I've seen on the East Coast. The Lighthouse was not open on this visit but I'm sure we will be back again next year.

“Love the Lights”

Great location, situated directly across the way from The Harbor View Hotel and just a short walk from the center of town. Nice beach to walk around and the hotel has a pier there, too. Very scenic! Great spot for pictures!

“Worth seeing if you're in town”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

This lighthouse is walking distance from the center of Edgartown and is on a small beach. Good place to go with kids. Very short walk up. I forget if there is a charge, but if so, it wasn't much. Between the road and the lighthouse, there is another beachy area and a pond where dogs can go before 9am. Our dog had a blast swimming in the pond, since the ocean was too rough for him.

“Beautiful lighthouse”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

This was right in front of our hotel, so very close to walk to. It wasn't open for us to go inside, but we enjoyed the beach area around it as well.
