Owner description: The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. Major renovations completed in 2007, including installation of a staircase to the lantern room, allow the interior of the Edgartown Light to be open to visitors. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on North Water Street. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses drop off on Church Street in Edgartown. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the lighthouse from this location.

“Worth seeing”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

Worth seeing and taking a picture. There are many light houses to see on Martha's Vineyard. We saw two of them.

“Lighthouse Beautiful”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

I loved the visit to see the lighthouse. This is a must do if you visit Edgartown. Very serene. There were not very many people on the beach at this time of the year. The sound of seagulls flying over head was serenity.

“It has a blinky red light instead of a bright searchlight”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

It was closed when we were there, as the summer season hadn't started yet, but it still looks cool. The nearby seagulls were hurling crabs against the concrete around the house, so we enjoyed that National Geographic moment quite a bit. Certainly more than the crabs did.

“Good views and very friendly caretaker.”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

We were at the beach and didn't have any money with us. The caretaker was so nice and let us in for free.

“Im here right now!”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

I love returning here, it is such a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of life. Your view is so peaceful, and soothing to the soul. Im staying at the Harborview Hotel which is just a short walk up from the Lighthouse. Harborview Hotel's front porch it's a great place for a good book, or hot cup of tea overlooking the lighthouse. No matter what time of day, or what type of weather, its perfect. I love it here and will continue to come back again and again. Bring comfy shoes, and enjoy the walk, I promise it will renew your soul. (Not handicap or stroller friendly, on the trail up to the lighthouse as is it sand)
