Owner description: The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. Major renovations completed in 2007, including installation of a staircase to the lantern room, allow the interior of the Edgartown Light to be open to visitors. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on North Water Street. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses drop off on Church Street in Edgartown. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the lighthouse from this location.

End of Edgartown, but close enough to town to walk. The beach there is long and wide. One of my favorites. Linda from Ligonier,Pa.

We went to the lighthouse in the evening. Lots of broken shells and bird poop all around the lighthouse. Interesting factoid: The lighthouse is built on a manmade island that was later filled in by a storm.

The water at the beach is crystal clear. Walk another quarter mile and you will have a nice beach all to yourself in the spring.

The views out to the light house are spectacular. It's a pleasant walk out there and you can now take a tour to the top if you are so inclined. Bring your camera; you'll treasure your photos.

Its a charming lighthouse that you can ascend. Also a lovely beach for the kids to scamper about. Usually very quiet.

Worth the walk onto the dune. Traveling to the light house you are surrounded by water, birds, roses and shells. Very picturesque
