Description: Karoo Restaurant is inspired by the diversity of British, Dutch, African, Malaysian, Portuguese and Indian flavors that make up the delicious dishes of Chef Sanette Groenewald's South African homeland. Our eclectic menu ranges from VEGAN, VEGETARIAN, and Gluten free options to homemade burgers, fish & chips, native stews and exotic meats. We carry a wide assortment South African wines and unusual imported beers from all over the world. As always our entire menu is available for dine-in or take-out.

I always have such a challenge when my daughter from N. Y.C. Comes to visit, she is a vegan and I have a shellfish allergy, so finding unique dining options is always a challenge. Thank you Karoo for fitting the bill! Finally something different, fun and delicious! The staff was great, and helpful with suggestions. We will definitely be returning.

We went expecting some exciting unique African dishes with pizzaz. There were African meals, but the ones we had were average at best. The appetizer was the best part. My meal, the South African national dish, was a bland meat loaf with sticky yellow rice, which appeared to be packaged. The food definitely needs to be spiced up and should be cooked from scratch. The cocktail was very weak and listless. The waitress was fawning over us throughout the meal, something we can not stand. The "African" dessert was a below average egg custard, like something from a box.

The restaurant is trying but not making it.

The Karoo Restaurant's South African menu brings a new range of dishes and flavors to the Route 6 restaurant scene. At the same time, most of these specialties have been well tested in the owner's Provincetown cafe. Even in the first weeks of operation the kitchen and the wait staff were working smoothly.

A shared combo platter of appetizers is a good way to sample several of the distinct tastes on the main menu. The Peri Peri chicken wings have a smooth and delicate flavor The samosas were light and as good as you will find on the Cape. For entrees you could try the Peri Peri Chicken itself. The beef Bobotie is probably the most interesting main dish. It is a delicate meatloaf with a light cream sauce. The curried lamb stew and most of the other curry dishes are not too spicy. The lamb was tender and flavorful but there were way more vegetables than the dish needed.

The wait at 6:15 on an early May Saturday was over an hour. Since they're not accepting reservations, this waiting can only become a mess as we move into the summer season. I hope they rethink this before people start giving up.The walls are nicely painted with South African designs but there is no apparent sounding proofing and the dining room gets very loud early in the evening. A nice bar dominates the center of the restaurant but this just adds to the noise.

Excellent beer on tap! Food was eclectic and delicious. Service was great! I will be frequenting this restaurant, for sure. Good sign as they filled all tables and the bar on a Wednesday evening in May! Also love the light airy atmosphere. The peanut soup was particularly yummy!

We tried out this new South African restaurant, but found it very average. The wine list was authentic with some good medium priced wines. The food was disappointing and hardly authentic. The Peri Peri shrimp was hardly divine as mentioned in another review, the rice tasted out of a packet and the sauce was overwhelming. The grilled lamb chops where smothered in a too rich sauce. I have eaten excellent grilled chops in inexpensive South African restaurants and the chops at Karoo had none of the flavor that comes from authentic grilling. It's not an expensive restaurant and might be good for a change from the traditional Cape Cod fare, but keep your expectations low and you will probably not be disappointed.
