“Romantic Getaway”
Reviewed May 1, 2012

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in the Nantucket Cottage on the beautiful property of the Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast. The cottage was the perfect spot for our romantic getaway weekend and our hosts Gordon and Jean made us feel welcome and comfortable. From the picturesque setting overlooking the Nauset Marsh and Nature Trail to the beautifully decorated cottage to the delicious gourmet breakfasts provided, it made for a wonderful experience. We highly recommend staying with Jean and Gordon and enjoying their warm hospitality. We hope to return again for our anniversary (maybe every year!)

Room Tip: Nantucket Cottage is Cape Cod comfort and charm

My wife and I stayed at Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast last weekend (April 2012) in the Emma room. Gordon and Jean are wonderful hosts with a wealth of knowledge about the area: places to hike, trails to bike, trees to wonder at, restaurants to frequent. You could also do fine without their help because the seashore is about 500 yards from their front door. Jean is also a great cook; breakfast was memorable. If you forget your book, no worries. Their library is splendid. We've already booked our return in September, which is wise as they have only three rooms.

Room Tip: Emma has a nice sized sitting room where we watched a DVD and read very comfortably. The room upstai...

We have just spent a tranquil four days at the Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast. The location of the inn is perfect for long walks with ocean views. Gordon and Jean made us feel welcome from the start with helpful ideas for places to visit and restaurants to enjoy lunch and dinner. The Emma Suite was so comfortable and beautifully furnished, we felt like we were in our own private get away. And the breakfasts were absolutely delicious. The egg souffle, the apple pancakes, everything was excellent. We are looking forward to a return visit.

I am not one to take the time to write reviews however this 4 day getaway deserves the time.

From the time I pulled into the drive of Gordon & Jean Avery’s bed and breakfast on Fort Hill I was hooked.

I stayed in the Lucille suite on the second floor, which is extremely charming and made me feel as if I were staying with family. I found everything I needed in my second floor retreat, including a comfy bed, immaculate bathroom, good wifi connection and flat screen TV with DVD. The breakfasts were the first sign that I was not staying with family because they were “AMAZING”. Jean’s Fort Hill Cheesy- Chive eggs, Dutch babies and Veggie filled Omelet, not to mention the jam filled muffins where a delight, really wanted to stay longer just for the breakfasts. Gordon was very helpful and knowledgeable of all the local sites not to be missed. Walking the paths on Fort Hill that over look the marsh and the Atlantic is a must, especially at sunrise.

Leaving Gordon & Jean's Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast relaxed and unstressed, Priceless!

Have been going to the Cape for many, many years but this was the first time staying in Eastham. The Fort Hill B&B was a wonderful place, incredible location and Gordon, one of the hosts and owners, made us feel incredibly welcome and at home. We stayed in the Nantucket cottage, which was absolutely beautiful. It was a duplex, with kitchen, bathroom and living room (with working fireplace) on the first floor, and the bedroom on the second floor. It was comfortable and well appointed. The B&B is located in the Fort Hill area of Eastham, which is a quiet and pristine spot, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. We had a nice view of the water from the living room of the cottage and there are great trails nearby for taking long, scenic walks. We had delicious, and abundant, breakfasts each morning (goat cheese omlette with fresh baked walnut bread one morning, and apple pancakes with maple syrup and croissant the next) and there was a batch of fresh baked brownies waiting for us when we arrived. Jean, Gordon's wife, is an amazing baker and cook! Really top-notch! Although I have been to the area for years Gordon suggested some new restaurants and places to go (viewing the whales from Race Point beach in P-Town is a highlight). We were there in the 'quiet' time of late March, when many places are closed but we still enjoyed the quiet peacefulness of the area and staying at Fort Hill B&B certainly enhanced our stay. Hope to go back!

Room Tip: There are two suites in the main house which looked lovely, but for real quiet and romance, go for t...

Hmmm...I don't usually gush, but I will tell you this, Jean's Apple Pancakes are the best pancakes I have ever tasted! The delicious breakfasts were just one enjoyable facet of my recent visit to Fort Hill B&B. I was traveling solo and stayed in the Emma Suite on the first floor of the main house. Needing some restful down-time, I searched on-line and found Fort Hill B&B. It fit the bill perfectly! The private sitting room / library of the Emma Suite is relaxing with tres comfortable seating, lots of books to peruse, a flat-screen tv for movies, did I mention there's a piano, too? The bedroom: spacious and elegant. The four-poster bed was made with amazingly soft sheets. It was so easy to snuggle my way into a deep sleep. The bathroom is quite spacious as well, spa-like, with a wonderfully large shower/tub and bay window seating. The property is adjacent to easy footpath access to the National Seashore. Most importantly, this is a GREAT place to stay at ANY time of year on Cape Cod. The Cape isn't just for summertime, autumn, or spring. Winter is a beautiful time to visit the Cape! The crowds are gone. PB Boulangerie Bistro in South Wellfleet is open for business - marvelous authentic French bistro, as well as many other year-round restaurants that Jean and Gordon can recommend to you. Winter sunshine, crisp fresh air, walks along the beach, and don't forget to enjoy the main house's guest-shared living area with fireplace that is crackling away each morning when you go to the dining room for breakfast ... bliss. Come see for yourself!
