Cape Cod is a highly recommended place to visit, especially the back roads like West Yarmouth and Dennisport. Most restaurants market to and welcome tourists to patronize their establishments. Unfortunately, there is one that markets to tourists but does not welcome them. It is called the Sand Dollar Bar & Grill. They advertise "The best oyster shots" but do not supply them. They have an outside truck bring them in. We are adventurous people, but not that adventurous. The bar staff were very slow to greet us let alone serve us. It is obviously a locals bar but NOT friendly to outsiders. The food was the absolute worst part. We love fried calamari and this grill features Portuguese calamari, a spicy alternative to what you typically eat. The marinara sauce that came with it had a very distinctive taste. Unfortunately, it was not that of food. The chef had placed ashes in the marinara. My husband agreed that ash was the addition and nearly puked. His steamed clams were so full of sand he could not finish them. I had to spit one out that I tasted due to the grit. When we insisted the bartender taste our marinara sauce, he did so and went to the kitchen without a word. Upon his return, he brought a cup of untainted marinara sauce and said nothing. No "sorry", no, "we'll buy you a drink for the mistake". Nothing. We were so dissapointed with the lack of concern that we didn't bother to say anything about the fact that they do not clean their clams. A well known fact about serving clams is to have them eat cornmeal for a few days before you cook them up. That way the clams excrete the sand from their systems so you don't end up eating them. Perhaps they keep the "unclean" clams for unwanted tourists.
Eitherway, I would highly recommend you miss this "Beach" bar that is no where near the water or beach.
