My family has been going to South Dennis for over 10 years now. We used to love Captain Williams House, and now love La Scala. We weren't sure what to expect when we got there, and we were pleasantly surprised. We had a group of 20 people, and there was no problem accomidating us. The meatballs tasted just like my italian grandmother used to make. The deserts were also outstanding! Can't wait to go back this year! Now, if only we could find a good pizza place on the Cape!

We found this restaurant on a side road on a wet and very cold night in March. A very friendly welcome and great food, both the Italian and the frest fish. Would definitely go there again.

After 10 summers on the Cape, we've frequented quite a few restaurants in the Dennisport/Harwich area. Ever since we had kids we've had to pass on Villa Roma, a good Italian place in Harwich (sadly they have a no child policy now). Well, I can't go too long without marinara sauce. For years, we've been searching for decent Italian food on the cape -- no easy task. Well, last week La Scala served up the best we've had so far, surpassing our expectations all around. It's a real hidden gem. Here are the highlights:
1. Decor's not typical Italian, but it's elegant. Candles on tables, no white linen but you definitely feel like it's a nice night out, even with the little ones in tow.
2. The bar area is more casual and lively, w/ TVs and a year-round clientel if that's your speed. There are two main dining rooms only open in season, and they are quieter, more formal, very nice. It's great to have two options with the same menu.
3. The food: they have the usual Italian suspects, plus a few inventive options that knocked our socks off. Honestly, you can't go wrong. Prices are reasonable; not cheap, not expensive, but fair. Considering what some places charge for a tiny clam roll and soggy fries, it's a bargain. We'll be back many times just because of that. We didn't eat dessert although the table next to us did and it looked fantastic. Sundae School is literally down the street so we opted for ice cream instead.
4. Service was outstanding. We were there on a Thursday night and it was busy, but not packed. Hostess was friendly, prompt and knew her stuff. Waitresses also extremely friendly, knowledgeable (most eat there even on their off-days) and attentive.
5. Our kids are used to eating out often, so they are well-behaved at the dinner table. That said, this place is not Chuck-E-Cheese, so be honest with yourself if and when you bring kids here. They don't have too many high chairs, and although they have a great kids' menu, don't expect balloons, crayons and coloring books waiting at your table. If you need that sort of thing, go to one of the chains in Hyannis, pay too much, get lousy food and waste a night out. Otherwise, La Scala will keep you happy -- kids spaghetti and meatballs was so good I wanted my son's order!
Bottom line: we'll be back again and again. If you're there in season and you're dying for good Italian food, you'd be crazy not to give it a shot.

My family goes to Dennisport every year and has a great time doing so. We always used to go to Captain William's House, the restaurant there before La Scala. When we went in, there was nobody there, making us rightfully wonder what was going on. Finally, someone came out and brought us to a table. As it turned out, our waiter was also the chef, also making us nervous. We recieved a "complimentary" salad consisting of one cherry tomato and half brown lettuce. The main course also left much to be desired. If you want to go to a halfway decent restaurant, don't go here. Go a few minutes out of your way to Brax Landing, a very good establishment.

I love La Scala. If you are looking for over priced food in a designer decor, go somewhere else. This is a no frills place, but the food is great. My friends and I go as a winter's night out, usually Wed. night. Can't beat the sausage and I recently heard that they grow their own veggies. The wait staff consists of 1 person in winter and she is super friendly and helpful.
