I happened to randomly check for the attractions nearby and found this place. When I checked the website, it looked too good to be true, so I decided to check it out. Well, it exceeded all my wildest expectations!
This museum has the best collection or Russian icons I've ever seen! Even if you're not into Russian history, these are probably some of the finest pieces of art created at that time in the world. The finesse, the colors, composition - it's really breathtaking. When you see icons in a church, they are usually far away. Here you can get to them really close. By close I mean you can get a magnifying glass. This is a very rare opportunity to get so close to such great works of art. Also, there is a lot of historical and religious value value behind them - something you can learn as well. Really, really amazing!
There is also a Cold war era propaganda exposition, it's definitely in a different league, but also interesting.
Overall, it's a true hidden gem, one of the biggest surprises in my museum experience. Highly, highly recommended!
