“There is something about the steak...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

I have been to this restaurant several times, and I keep going back to the steak because it's so good. It's quality meat, and they cook it right. The menu isn't long, but there is something for everyone including vegetarians. My cousin had the lobster pizza, with fig jam and blue cheese, and she loved it. My husband had the pork chop special and said it was one of the most flavorful pork chops he had ever eaten. The restaurant can get loud, especially when it's the height of the tourist season and they're packing them in, so be forewarned if noisy restaurants are a problem for you. Chilmark is still BYOB, so bring your wine and cocktails. Make a reservation, especially in August and on summer weekends. Have always found the staff welcoming, friendly, accommodating, and the waitstaff is knowledgeable about the food.

“Enjoyed!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

We enjoyed our visit to Chilmark Tavern recommended by a friend. Nice space, friendly staff and the lobster pizza with mission fig jam, corn, scallions and blue cheese was outstanding. Nice MV find. Worth a visit.

“A nice splurge - don't forget BYOB”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

We had a reservation for six on a Thursday. It's quite a loud restaurant - so if that bothers you I would suggest skipping this place. Chilmark is a dry town so it's BYOB - which is one of my favorite things.

The appetizers were my favorite part of the meal. Fried clams were perfectly executed and I wish we'd had two orders. The ricotta with grilled bread was also delicious. The chef's pâté was good but overly salty for my taste. Several of my friends had the scallops. Reviews were mixed with some loving them and others who thought the ratatouille overpowered the dish. I had the fluke which was quite good. Only problem was that the lemon cream sauce was cool - which didn't work on a dish served hot. Not sure why the temperature variations in a single dish. The cioppino got a good review from a friend as well.

Service was a bit spotty. We had to ask for bread multiple times and the waitstaff was generally friendly, but harried.

So overall the food was worth the splurge but be prepared for noise and spotty service.

“An Up Island Treasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

Visited the Chilmark Tavern last night. What an great experience! The food was outstanding. Tried the Lobster Pizza and Ricotta appetizers. Very unique. Then on to one of the best steaks I have ever had. The atmosphere was relaxed….maybe a bit loud. But we found a corner table and enjoyed the room. Pricey it is, but the value is well worth it. The only downside was when I saw they had charged a corking fee and chilled glass fee. (BYOB). Felt that was just tacking on to the bill and my one ding against the night. Well worth the trip up island.

“Best of MV 2013”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

This knocked off our perennial favorites as the best restaurant on MV during our trip this year. Outstanding if pricey food was truly special and worth it. Carpaccio app with a cioppino entree was a delicious combo. Reservations and eating earlier are a good idea. We brought our own bottle of scotch and felt like we were getting away with something, like it was still prohibition. Friendly and competent staff, clean kitchen. If you reach for some nits, one bathroom is super small, and the decor was not as warm as it could be, according to our wives. Still five stars all day long.
