Super beautiful beach in every way. Must have resident permit in summer. Great for long walks. Recent storms have changed size and shape, lots of erosion.

“Best Beach on East Coast”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

Lucy Vincent is the town beach for Chilmark. I have been going there for 30 years. You need live or be renting in the town to get on it. Then you need to go to town hall to get a sticker for your car or a walk on pass. Its complicated. Which is one of the reasons its so good. Its hard to get on. Which limits the number of people.

The beach has two sections. The first part about 1/4 mile is family friendly. The upper end is clothing optional. Still family friendly. Its not a nude beach as you might think of it. Imagine naked 60 year old guys (me). In other words its not sexy. What makes this so special are its informal rules. It is a radio free zone, if you bring a boom box someone might throw it in the ocean. There are no binoculars, might also get thrown in the ocean. And needless to say no cameras.

There is ample room to spread out, you can stake out a lot of space. Another very special thing about it is the surf, it has a prime body surfing break especially at low tide. You can catch a ride of a 100 yards or so.

Problem is Chilmark has some of the most expensive real estate in the world. It makes the Hamptons look like Rockaway Beach. It is definitely worth spending the $ at one of the Chilmark Inns for a weekend just to experience this place. And then, like me, you get addicted, get a house, and come back year after year.

“As Good As It Sounds”
Reviewed April 21, 2012

Lucy Vincent beach is a terrific spot to spend a sunny day on the ocean. The surf is mostly gentle but one has to be away of rip tide at times. There is one area called "the cut" . . . it's at the far end and is a great place to go to ride the incoming and outgoing tides.
