Totally disagree with the previous reviews. We have gone for 5 yrs in a row for both work and personal events (most recently 2 weeks ago) and the place is beautiful with extremely attentive service. The food has consistently improved over the last few years and this year was excellent. They have a huge array of activities for all ages and interests.

Yes, the beach is rocky in places. This is what most beaches are like in New England. (And, what makes them fun and different - climbing on the rocks, finding crabs and shells in the nooks, etc.) If you want more sand, go south.

Thank heaven we were using gift certificates --- we'd have had a fit if it were our own money! Egregious service, limited menu, careless execution of the food. It was okay at about one third of the price.

Don't bother!

Travel comrades...save your money and look somewhere else! Whilst visiting friends in Chatham over the July 4th weekend, we had the displeasure of experiencing the truly mediocre Main Dining area of the Inn. Our server was charming, but we had to endure 45-60 minute waits between courses! It became unbearable at one point. To add insult to injury, the food quality suffered as plates were not being prepped at the same time, too much time under heat lamps perhaps, etc. It was explained to our group that they'd switched the formats of the dining areas, and obviously this was ill prepared and done at the expense of clients. Utilizing the Inn's website, I raised my concerns in an e-mail correspondence and at this writing approx. 10 weeks later have received no reply. In reviewing the thread of other CBI reviews...the common denominator is "avoid". Lovely setting, the kind of place you do want to fall in love with, yet overrated on the food front. For journalistic accuracy...we did not stay at the Inn, and would not consider a future visit due to Managements lack of oversight.

Screaming children, crying babies and toddlers, children running about; that was our impression of every dining experience at CBI restaurants. While staying at CBI we attempted to dine on the property 3 times with the same impression every time. The reason: service is non-existent. You wait, and wait and wait. For water, for menus, as long as 45 minutes for a "waiter introduction" after we had been seated nearly an hour by reservation to dine.

The ocean view is past the "CBI kids camps" in full session even during the cocktail hour and dinner hours. (Again more screaming where one would hope to find an adult-zone in a bar). One evening we witnessed chaos so out of control an ambulance was called because a "camper" broke his arm during the games. Not to fully blame the hotel, but the teenagers running these camps are completely outnumbered and the children everywhere seem to find discipline and order a foreign concept to game playing. There was absolute chaos in every group with children not being at all contained.

In the dining rooms the children were simply unable to endure the wait, the lack of beverage or food, and the wait again for signing for the check. Be prepared to at least 1 hour before you see staff ready to take your order and the next time you see someone may be an hour later. Endurance is what you need for this place. That, and the expectation that everything you read in the brochure was just a flowery sales pitch to lure you there. Once you are there for the first night, the first meal, you really feel like you'd been had. This is a very, very expensive stay in Chatham. For no service, you could have rented a beach cottage and had money left over for a personal chef or fine dining your entire stay. At least thats what we thought.
