We tried Del Mar for the first time last Saturday evening. We had heard it was great, so we were a little surprised to see that it was less than full when we arrived. They sat us at a table on the covered patio--not much on ambience and near a heat lamp that wasn't working on a chilly night. Long story short, the food was good, definitely not great, and the one special we both wanted was already sold out at 8:00. But what killed the night was how over-the-top rushed our service was. Our entrée came before our appetizer was finished. At both the appetizer and entrée stages, wait staff moved in to remove our plates before we were finished. When we actually did finish, and were each enjoying the last glass of wine from the bottle we had purchased, the server swooped in to ask if we were ready to order dessert. We told he we would first like to finish the wine. Not three minutes later, she was back again. We told her again that we would like to finish the wine. A few minutes after that, she came by again, and I pointedly reminded her what we had already told her twice. By the way, only 50 minutes had now passed since the moment we were originally seated. I guess she finally got the point because we had to find her 20 minutes later when we were actually done. We won't return, but if you choose to go, just don't get too comfortable, as their first priority is to get you out as quickly as they can.
