“Perfect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2014

Me and my fiancé came here to get married. Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much to ask, and the food was genuinely excellent. The small attention to details really set the inn apart from other places I've stayed in the past, from the soup in afternoon to the small decorative elements in the décor. I honestly can't speak highly enough of the staff and the inn itself, and would implore anybody looking into an elopement package to look no further.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It was a pleasure hosting your wedding and we're thrilled you enjoyed your special day. One of the things I love most about my job is putting together elopements for couples. The ceremonies are so special and it really is a lovely way to get married - stress free! We hope to see you back for anniversaries and getaways!

My husband and I had stayed here in 1997 and had always wanted to return. We stayed in the Captain Harding room which is rustic and roomy. The bedding is so comfortable that I didn't want to get out of bed. Upon arrival, chocolate chip cookies were waiting with a note wishing me a happy birthday. The tea, scones, and treats were the best that I've had. Breakfast was delicious and I did not walk away hungry. My husband likes that there are individual tables as opposed to one large group table since he doesn't want to have to talk to strangers. The staff stay in the background and don't hover. I compare all inns and bed and breakfasts to the captains house inn.

Thank you so much for the lovely review. We agree that when it comes to breakfast, it is nice to have your own table. While guests often wind up chatting with others, it gives those that prefer to slowly wake up and face the world, a chance to sip coffee and linger over Kevin's breakfast quietly. We're so glad you enjoyed your birthday getaway and hope to see you again!

My husband and I have stayed at the Captain's House Inn twice. We chose mid- to high-end rooms both times and were not disappointed (Wild Pigeon and Lady Mariah). Beautifully furnished rooms and very comfortable beds. We thought the breakfasts were great.

Room Tip: If you enjoy soaking tubs, Lady Mariah room was great.

My wife and I have stayed at the Captain's House Inn on 3 or 4 occasions. Each time was a highly enjoyable experience. The inn is one of our favorite places to visit for a weekend getaway.

In particular, we like the following things about the this place: 1) the property and rooms are lovely and well maintained; 2) it's a relaxing and graceful place; 3) the staff understands hospitality and treats guests warmly; 4) the location is ideal for walking the beach or strolling through Chatham; 5) the dining room is sunny, bright and inviting; 6) the food is terrific, including English tea in the afternoon, breakfast in morning, and cookies in the kitchen at night; and 7) there are some nice restaurant options in the area.

Try it, you'll like it.

We are very fortunate not only to have a luxury property, but also to have a gracious staff to help pamper our guests and a lovely town for guests to enjoy during their stay. We're so glad you enjoyed all aspects of our inn and location and look forward to seeing you again.

This was our second stay at the Inn. Jill had recommended to us during our summer visit that we should attend the Chatham Christmas Stroll in December. It was fabulous. CHI was one of eight Inns to host the historic Inn Stroll. The CHI stood out among the many in regards to refinement and sophistication. Although this was our second stay at the Inn we continue to be impressed with the impeccable service, comfort, and food. Especially noteworthy is the attention to detail and Jill's foresight to guests preferences. I would sincerely recommend this Inn to those in search for English charm and distinction. We are looking foreward to our next stay.

Room Tip: You cannot go wrong with any room!

Thank you very much for your lovely review! Christmas stroll weekend is one of our favorites here on in Chatham. All the inns are beautifully decorated and it is such a nice way to kick off the holiday season. We're glad you enjoyed it and were able to see the inn both in summer and winter - very different experiences, but enjoyable either way. We hope to see you again, and once again, thank you for the kind words.

My fiancee and I stayed in the "Lady Mariah" for two nights in February.

The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five was that we both felt that the food at breakfast was not really on par with the rest of the experience. While some aspects (the perfectly poached eggs and the locally sourced jam, in particular) were delicious, most of the dishes were either odd (the "cheese soldiers" which were basically cut up pieces of grilled cheese served with eggs and sprinkled with raw bell pepper, the avocado muffins which didn't taste like avocado) or kind of incomplete (the bagels and smoked salmon buffet, but without any of the traditional accompaniments, such as tomato, chives, red onion, capers; the artificially sweetened Yoplait yogurts (instead of, as we've often seen, plain yogurt with homemade granola and fresh fruit). Overall, for the price (which was pretty steep for the off season, given that pretty much no one goes to the lower Cape in February), we think they can up their game a bit with the breakfast.

That being said - our room (the "Lady Mariah") was amazing - one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in, beautifully decorated, and a spacious bathroom with a huge soaking tub and fireplace. We were actually pleasantly surprised by how modern and comfortable the amenities in our room were, while maintaining the beautiful structural integrity of the old buildings - something that we haven't always found with bed and breakfasts. The staff was gracious and accommodating (and adorable, with their British accents), despite our late arrival Friday evening from Boston. The service was first rate - we asked for more water one night, and were given an entire bottle of Pellegrino, and our room was literally cleaned while we were at breakfast. We appreciated the "extra touches," which included complimentary bottled water, cranberry juice and granola bars in our room, and the tea service in the afternoon. The inn is conveniently located near Chatham's main street and restaurants, and Chatham is a good home base to explore our favorite part of the Cape - the National Seashore.

Overall, we had a wonderful visit and would definitely recommend the inn to others.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. We're sorry you did not enjoy the breakfast as much as most guests seem to. We strive to please everyone with a large selection on the buffet as well as two options for entrees, but everyone's palate and preferences are different. The cheese soldier dish stems from our affiliation with England - not only are our interns all British, but Jill's dad comes from over the pond and Jill grew up with "cheese soldiers" as a staple snack. Our interns are familiar with the English terminology the snack so we decided to incorporate it into our breakfast rotation. Most likely, the name of the meal is lost on most guests, and perhaps we should have a little "story behind the dish" write up. Either way, though, we can certainly understand that the way it is served may need a little tweaking. With grown up grilled cheese surfacing on menus at upscale restaurants, we have toyed with picking up that trend. If you have any ideas, and want to email us, we'd love to hear them! Yogurt has also been a topic of debate, but since we haven't had any guests comment otherwise, we have not changed our selection. Perhaps, we will revisit that decision now. Our smoked salmon is normally garnished with capers and red onion, but if guests ever want more than what is out, we are happy to provide extra.

We are very glad that overall, your stay was enjoyable and you found the room, service, and complimentary amenities in line with your expectations. We hope to see you again and make a better breakfast impression!

My new husband and I stayed at the Captain's House Inn for an incredible weekend. We cannot say enough how wonderful our experience was. From the time of our arrival through our checkout everything was just outstanding. The staff was very attentive, our lovely room (Wild Pigeon) was prepped with the lights on and warmed up for our arrival! The breakfasts were outstanding, my flowers for the ceremony were beautiful and the cake (prepared onsite by the Chef) was perfect looking and tasting! All we really had to do for this weekend elopement was show up, say our vows and kiss! Everything else was handled by the staff! We will definitely be back to stay at this beautiful Inn!

First of all, congratulations on your wedding! We are sorry we were on our own vacation for your elopement, but are glad you were pleased with the service and all the components of your wedding. The concept behind our elopement package is just as you said - all you have to do is show up! Congratulations again and many thanks for taking the time to write a review for us.
