Captain's House Inn
Ranked #4 of 9 Chatham B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 4, 2013

We booked the Captain's House Inn for only 1 night in December, and we had a fantastic time. We had tea and scones near the fireplace by the dining room, and later on were able to light up a DURALOG (or whatever) in the Hiram Harding room.

From the photos online, I was worried the Hiram Harding room would be a little too "manly sea captain" -- lots of dark paneled wood, high bed making the room seem small like on a ship -- but it turns out the room was really great. The room felt a lot bigger than we thought it would be. We lit the fireplace and watched a movie on DVD (since it was freezing outside).

Ideally they'd spruce up the bathroom a bit more; they were certainly clean but showing their age. Putting a more modern bathroom in could be quite fun (rain shower head, more lighting, etc.).

Lots of charm in this bed and breakfast, and a very good deal in the off season.

The Captain's House Inn in Chatham is one of our favorite Inns. The rooms are perfect. We have stayed in at least 3 different rooms and loved every one. The rooms are cozy and romantic. The breakfasts are delicious and served in a sunny, beautiful breakfast room.
The innkeeper was very attentive and made sure she addressed each guest each morning.
The Inn in a little pricey but worth the price for the attentiveness, service and atmosphere.

The Captain's House Inn is beautifully appointed and welcomes you upon entering. Allowing for individual freedom to explore the kitchen and help yourself to hot drinks and freshly baked treats gives the sense of being a guest in a home that caters to comfort and relaxation. Asked if we needed any reservations, we gladly accepted and were rewarded with one of the most delicious meals I've ever tasted on the Cape--The Impudent Oyster--extraordinary! High tea was lovely and comes complete with British interns serving it with their lovely accents. A truly lovely experience. I would highly recommend this Inn and will consider it a destination when going to Chatham in the future.

This was our 5th stay at the Captain's House Inn in Chatham and once again we were so happy we chose to stay here! We stayed in the Hiram Harding room, which has a huge king sized bed with a magnificent wood burning fireplace facing it. The perfect set up for snuggling on a cold winters day and/or night. The rustic feel of the room and the wide plank floors makes for the most wonderful hideaway to escape and relax. We love the breakfast room and the amazing breakfast that is served every morning by. Jill is a wonderful Host and we so enjoy catching up with her when we visit. It feels like home. The staff are pleasant and attentive and the rooms are always sparkling clean and neat! I can't say enough about this wonderful B & B! We will definitely be back again very soon!

My husband and I planned a last minute trip to Cape Cod and had our first B&B stay here. We're typically big hotel type people so we were a little nervous about staying in a B&B. We were pleasantly surprised. It was very charming and the people were very nice. We weren't forced to eat at a table with strangers, which was one of our concerns. The room was very pretty, very clean and more updated than I expected. The bathroom was huge and beautiful. The linens (sheets and towels) were exceptional! I am super picky about sheets (only one brand I would buy), but these were amazing! The grounds were also very well-maintained and beautiful. Breakfast was very good, and drinks and treats in the room and kitchen were very welcome.

My only complaints are that the bed was very creaky and the sitting/living room area was small and a bit uncomfortable for lounging. I guess that is part of being in a B&B in a historic area.

Price was good compared to some overpriced B&B's in the area. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Captain's House Inn is a favorite of ours! I planned a relaxing getaway for my husband and I, as we had not been away (without our children) in over 8 years. We've been to many Inn's, but there was no question as to where we would go. We stayed in the Tradewinds room, and it could not have been more perfect. The 2 person soaking tub is wonderful! The king sized bed was so comfortable. The staff is so friendly and helpful, and you could almost believe you had been whisked away to the U.K. when you meet them. The Innkeepers, James and Jill, are friendly and helpful as well, and make a point to personally meet their guests. You cannot beat the food, and the Cream Tea is a lovely way to relax before going out for dinner. The decor at the Inn is elegant, yet comfy. The library is well stocked with DVD's, and several books, as well as complimentary Port and Sherry. Everything is so clean, beautifully decorated, and you will LOVE the sheets on your bed! We bought a set for our own bed at home! If my husband did not have business in Boston, we would have stayed another couple of nights! We did not want to leave! Next time, we will not wait so long to visit the Inn again! A+++

The Captains Inn is a true gem. We stayed in the Eliza Jane suite for two nights and it was just perfect so perfect that we barely left the room. The innkeepers and their staff were so accomodating staying open when we were the only guests there due to the recent blizzard and cancellations. The breakfast was amazing and can't say enough about the hospitality. If you need to recharge your battery this is the place to go especially in the winter when it's quiet.
