This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been - anywhere. So peaceful and just absolutely amazing. There was barely anyone there...but the four of us and a few bird watchers. I cannot express how strongly I recommend visiting - being sure to make your way to the tip where the beach turns and meets the marshes.

“a gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2010

The access to the refuge is past the Chatham lighthouse and is through a private area. In fact you see a board that tries to deter the interested visitors (don't be), which is likely why I saw few turn around. The parking area is small. You walk on a boardwalk and down the wooden stairs to access a tranquil and clear water beach. Since the waves were very small, my toddler son had a field day in the water, splashing and picking up the shells. The beach grass completes the scenery.

“seal watching”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2007

This was one of the best things we did while on Cape Cod. It was just a small group of people (maybe 15), in a boat that sits you right down in the water. They take you out to where the seals are sitting on the sand bar, just waiting for the tide to go out. It was incredible to be so close! I loved not having to fight for a place at the rail to see - everyone had to stay seated, and they circled around quite a bit so we all got plenty of opportunity to view the seals.
