We have been coming to the cabins in this park for 3 years now. They are very basic, with no running water, but comfortable. The bathhouse is very well kept and close with hot water. You have to book 6 months in advance in the warmer months.
Of the hikes, the trails along the Deerfield river are the most beautiful. There are some loops that are short enough, even for small children. The pool and river are also good for hours of exploration and play.

Much of this area was devastated by a huge storm last year which was so severe that much of Route 2 (Mohawk Trail) was closed to traffic for over a year. The picnic and pool area along the river was virtually destroyed and much of the wonderful area I enjoyed as a child is totally changed. Much work remains , but it is beginning to be recognizable.

Driving the Mohawk Trail is a tradition going back generations. Postcards at the gift shops along the way show people in a Model T making the drive. I have driven it when the fall colors are at their peak, but to avoid the traffic, make yours an off-season drive (we came in August) and you will have the place to yourself. The forest has a great roadside picnic area along a rocky stream, with clean toilet facilities and lots of picnic tables and fire pits. I have made the drive a number of times and always stop and picnic there. The experience makes leaving the Mass Pike and taking that little extra time on a two-lane highway worthwhile.

You seriuosly need to update the site to forwarn visitors that due to the damages of storms from the past you allow trailor trash drunks in front of the entrance.
