The numbers: $10 for 20 runs in 3 hours, 45 minutes. 30 degrees at 5pm, 16 degrees at 9pm. The ride up is 10 minutes on the left chair, 9 on the middle and 5 on the right. It takes under 2 minutes top to bottom on Competition. Very friendly lift attendants and fellow skiers. No lines, but a good crowd. Zero crashes on the new boots, after adjusting the skis from a 3 reading to a 6. I can't see at night anymore....

Berkshire Ski Area is reminiscent of those throwback mountains of yesteryear where skiers go to enjoy great runs, basic yet cozy lodges, and tolerable crowds. Here is a resort where you feel welcome and the locals are are friendly. The mountain itself isn't overwhelming, but the trails are well groomed and it never seems overly crowded. Very nice experience there.

I have been reluctant to write about this mountain, for fear that it would become crowded. But after a recent visit, I felt I had to share.
This ski hill, in sleepy Charlemont MA,is a great place for skiers of all abilities, but it's particularly fun for kids and people who have an aversion to skiing in crowded conditions. We like to start on the back side in the morning, because the sun hits that side first. The lodge there is great for a break or lunch because you can watch your skis from inside.
The main face is equally uncrowded, with lots of runs to choose from, including a couple of steeper blacks. The main lodge and parking area are here.
Even on holidays, there might be ten people ahead of you waiting to board the lift - TEN - as opposed to the popular Wachusett Mountain, where the lines become ridiculous by 10 am and the slopes are always crowded.
We always have a terrific, stress-free time at Berkshire East.

This is a great mountain for intermediate skiers who want to avoid the busy, overcrowded mountains of the Northeast. If you don't mind a relatively modest, simple lodge and fewer lifts than in VT, you will be very happy with the lack of lines and decent runs. One thing that bothered me was the inability to get a weekend lift ticket or rentals. Each were daily so we had to deal with it all over again on our second day there.

My husband and I are just learning to downhill ski and needed some practice. Loved the affordable $42 family night lift tickets ($42 for both not each). We would have paid more going out to eat! The conditions were great and we had such a great time.
