“Joggers heaven”
Reviewed February 1, 2012

All I can say is that it is the best place to run, walk, fish or just commune with nature. Always fluid and changing. You can walk from Buzzards Bay to Scusset Beach. I think its about 12 miles. Lots of fun and now Buzzards Bay end has a new visitors center.

It's a great place to walk/run/bike/rollarblade. Always a nice breeze in the summer.

“What a relaxing site.”
Reviewed December 31, 2011

Drive down to the Mass Maritime Academy. Bring a picknick with you and just park and enjoy the breeze and boats going by. You will love it.

“Cape Cod Canal is great to see if a barge is going through!”
Reviewed December 22, 2011

To stand on the sidewalk of the Bourne Bridge or at the rest area near the Railway Bridge and watch the barges or boats is great fun. The Canal is beautiful when a foggy mist is rising on a cool morning in Autumn.

“Cape Side-Bourne is best”
Reviewed January 29, 2011

Accessing the Cape Cod Canal from Bourne (on Bell Rd.) is a great way to see Buzzards Bay and watch the boats go by. The parking lot is smaller than the lot in Sandwich, but it's got it's own flavor. On one side, you can view the Massachusetts Military Academy and if it's in port, the Kennedy. On the other is the Railroad Bridge, and if you're lucky, watch it descend and see the train go by. It hauls either trash, or the dinner train, depending on the time. Usually, it goes by about 4-5 times a day in the summer. The bike trail is accessible from this lot, and you have to cross over the train tracks to get to it. Just remember: the wind is at your back when you leave, and fights you on your way back. It may not seem like it, but it's always this way, no matter the wind. Large traulers and container ships, and even a tall ship or two roll through here regularly in the summer, and sporadically in the winter. Fisherman line the canal here too, and are out at all times during the day and night. Go into Monument Beach and get ice cream at Whistle Stop (open seasonally)-best around, and homemade, and something to do while you wait for the boats!
