“Wonderful 3 nights”
Reviewed November 1, 2011

Judith and I had a relaxing three nights at the CFI and enjoyed every minute. Nathan gave us a most warm and sincere welcome and ensured we had everything we needed from the moment we arrived. Breakfasts were first class and plenty, good home cooked food and even producing perfectly poached eggs to go with the english muffins and canadian bacon!!. Room was spacious clean and luxurious, we stayed on the top floor in the Wellfleet room, quiet and secluded with our own fridge and coffee making facility and desk just outside. We were given fantastic recomendations for eating locally and covering a good range of budgets. A super general store just next door is worth a visit and the Inn is well placed for many great eating houses. Well situated for exploring the cape or justw andering down to the beach which is only miinutes away. All in all we would highly recommend the CFI above many hotels.

If the innkeepers at the Captain Freeman have forgotten anything in striving for the perfect getaway spot, I certainly don't know what it might be! Friendly, helpful and informative staff; spotless, newly-renovated property; luxury bed linens; welcoming chocolates; a hot breakfast cooked to order; coffee or tea any time of day or night; and a less than 10-minute walk to a gorgeous beach--what's not to like?? We didn't even use the lovely in-ground pool as our October weekend was a bit too chilly, but it would be a bonus on a hot summer day, especially when most B&Bs don't have one. These owners have obviously benefitted from their experience running Brewster By the Sea and know just what it takes to make a successful B&B hum. We travel frequently to the Cape and have stayed at many properties; we couldn't have been more pleased and will definitely return!

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely, but first floor rooms are immediately adjacent to common areas and likely to e...

My wife and I spent an overnight on Oct 9-10. We were greeted warmly by Suni at our arrival, who gave us a brief tour through the common areas and showed us to our room -- the Dennis room. The room was clean, nicely appointed, and overlooks the pool, which was still operating. Although the room was not spacious, it was large enough to give us space to stretch out.

My wife decided to get some (free) water and sit down on the porch -- the weather was perfect. I chose to remain in the room to watch the football game. At halftime, I joined her, picking up on the way some lemonade and a piece of delicious walnut-maple cake that the staff had put out for the guests.

The beds were very comfortable as was the bedding. We had a comfortable sleep with the windows open. Air conditioning was available but unnecessary. The gurgle of the water in the pool provided a comfortable white noise, but all would have been fine without it as the room was quiet.

Breakfast was served in the dining area. Food was very good. We very much enjoyed chatting with Byron, one of the proprietors, as we ate.

The property was recently renovated and it looked it. Everything was in top shape. The location, in Brewster, couldn't be better. It's an easy drive from Boston, and close to the farthest reaches of the Cape (Provincetown) as well as some of the busier inner towns (Hyannis). There's not much to do in Brewster itself, but that's not really a drawback.

I judge the value as being exceptional, especially for the Cape. We've stayed at much more expensive places that provided little to no additional service or room quality.

If you ask to stay in the Dennis room, beware that the shower is hard to deal with. It is in a footed tub that is difficult to enter because you need to step over the edge of the tub and there are no grips. In addition, there are no ledges or holders for soap or shampoo. I had to put mine in the base of the tub when I wasn't using one or the other. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with balance problems or lacking physical dexterity.

Thank you for your review, very thorough and informative for any guests considering staying at the inn. We appreciate the opportunity to give an update on our intentions for the Dennis room after a brief history. We purchased the Captain Freeman Inn in January 2011 and worked on as much of the property as time would allow until the season started. Most bathrooms received major updates along with many of the rooms. We rebuilt the porch columns, cleaned up the deck and pool, purchased new linens, beds and furniture through much of the grand old mansion. We have really enjoyed bringing this magnificent property back to life. This winter we get to work on details to a much higher level and to heavily rework parts of the common areas AND to rebuild the Dennis bathroom. We plan to build a surround with ledges on 3 sides of the old claw foot tub in order to keep a part of the old world alive and yet have safety and convenience issues well accounted for. These changes should make the Dennis room one of the more popular queen boutique rooms. Cheers, Byron

We love staying at Brewster By the Sea which is also owned by Donna and Byron so we were excited to try their new Inn. They worked hard getting it ready all winter and it shows. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, clean and reflective of their signature style of incorporating antique furniture w/ high thread count bedding and updated bathrooms (granite counter tops, tile fls & immaculate baths). The weather was nice so we ate al fresco on the side porch over looking the pool. The staff were friendly and responsive. All in all we had a lovely stay. The best part is that it is a short walk to the beach for sunset or early morning walks. Great place to get away!

This was our second visit to the Captain Freeman Inn and the first under the new ownership of Byron and Donna. We had a wonderful time during our four night stay in the Barnstable Room. We were treated like family and Nathan and Sunie's presence allowed us to ask questions at any time. Our breakfasts were top-notch - do you make home visits??? We love the central location to the rest of the Cape while visiting - never too far from our destinations for the day. The porches - off our room, the front porch so we can watch the comings and goings of others and the side porch for breakfast or for relaxing made us never want to leave! Thanks for a wonderful time - we will be back!!!!!! Save us a spot!

My husband and I had a wonderful six night stay at The Captain Freeman Inn. We found the Inn to be lovely, clean and meticulously cared for. Innkeepers Suni and Nathan were very friendly and helpful. The Inn has been recently renovated by owners Donna and Byron, who are planning more improvements for the lovely grounds. They are not on site because they own another beautiful B&B, but they stop by often and are very gracious hosts. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable with luxurious bedding and the bathroom was supplied with large plush towels and robes. It was a pleasure seeing Suni and her friendly helpers every morning. Breakfasts were delicious, served out on the screened-in porch overlooking the pool. There was a bar area that always had cold beverages and coffee available in addition to Suni's wonderful homemade treats. On most nights we skipped dessert because we knew what was waiting for us back at the Inn. The owners have anticipated every need of their guests and their attention to detail is evident. We have truly never been more comfortable staying at a B&B; so comfortable in fact, that we've already booked our week for next summer. It was a pleasure to come home to this special Inn after our days out on the Cape.

The Captain Freeman Inn offers a wonderful welcome with ease, charm, comfort and nourishment. The staff all were wonderful at making us feel pampered. The beautifully decorated rooms are clean and very comfortable, offering a bed that is soft as a cloud. The common areas are relaxing and reveal a bit of history of the area. It was easy to imagine Captain Freeman returning to his gracious home after time at sea. A dip in the pool by the herbs and flowers is yet another treat.
The location of the Inn is ideal, as you can walk or bike ride to all you need. Wonderful meals, the library, Brewster General Store and the bay are all very nearby. The morning starts with a delicious nutritious breakfast that easily holds you over to teatime, when scrumptious cookies are served. Thanks to Sunie, the Innkeeper, and the great staff, our stay was wonderful. We will definitely return and bring our friends.
