I have countless memories of seeing the herring run while visiting my grandparents on the Cape around Easter as a kid. If you can time it right, the sheer number of herring you see is amazing. My wife and I try to time a long weekend to the Cape every spring to coincide with the run for our own kids. It's a great way to celebrate spring a small way to shape a great part of natures cycle with them. The photos I posted ate from 2010 but its pretty representative off the run at a peak weekend.

Wonderful place to have a peaceful picnic or a leisurely walking tour. Especially fascinating when the fish are running, but touring the mill and grounds is nice at any time of year.

We found this place by randomly driving. It was nice to stop and see how the mill was grinding the corn meal. We got an explanation on how it's done and they showed us how it used to be done and what the old equipment looked like. After that we walked to the pond and saw the herring then into the museum. I loved that old ocarina! It was Sabbath so we couldn't buy the corn meal at the time. Luckily, they recently started selling it to the Brewster store so we got some later!

Gentleman walks you through the process of how the corn is ground into meal and it feels as if you walk back through time. Also gives you history on how the Indians saved the area from starvation as the crops were failing during Winter and how corn saved them.
