This was the second visit to Not Your Average Joe's this month and we were very disappointed. The first dinner we had there was very good and the service was excellent. The second time we visited we had lunch and everything was a disaster, from the service to the quality of the food. Although the restaurant was not crowded, our food seemed to take forever to arrive. We ordered basically soups, salads and sandwiches so not a complicated order...The chicken noodle soup was very salty and the noodles were hard. The half chicken sandwich was mushy and had very little chicken. On one of the orders, the tomato soup was served cold and the chicken sandwich was missing the chicken. Everything had to be sent back. Overall, a very disappointing experience and we will not go back.

Our first visit to NYAJ's in Beverly happened late on this past Labor Day Monday. We arrived at 9 pm (closing was 10) for a light supper after a long drive.

Entering an appealingly lit bar and restaurant combination, mostly booths, with sort of a 50's / 60's decor, we were struck by the very positive and chatty waiter and an extremely broad and eclectic menu. Excellent bread was offered with a unique and delicious dipping sauce.

We were tempted by many dishes but, given the advanced hour, we decided to build a shared snack from the appetizer list. Our selections were the Forno Baked Chicken Quesadilla, the Asian Chicken Dumplings and the Sweet Potato Steak Fries...the first two were simply exceptional, while the fries were good but nothing unusual. We washed these items down with a very nice local wheat ale on tap. And, of course, a couple more rounds of the bread and dipping oil.

Great looking desserts but we passed. The snack took about an hour and ten minutes and the bill was around $31 plus tip.

We will definitely go back for a full meal. Ambiance is sedate, cozy, welcoming and informal. Food offerings are all just a bit different...and appear to be made from scratch with some extra creativity. Nice bar menu and a couple TV's without being too "sports bar." The restaurant is located on the end corner of a strip mall close to the street with good parking. Great place!

We frequent this NYAJ and it was definitely not up to par this week. Restaurant crowded. LOTS of children....some screaming, too! Waiter overwhelmed. He forgot my utensils in spite of my asking 3x. He said he had all 'birthday people' in his section that night. I was one of them, too. The food just wasn't up to their usual standards. My husband & I both ordered a chicken dish and both were tough. We needed a serrated knife to cut thru....but good luck in getting one with our waiter....I'd still be there. I'll return to give them another chance but I was disappointed in this evening. Too many other choices.

Food & service is great. Have been here many times & the food is always delicious. My favorite is the personal size bar-b-q chicken pizza!

Joe's is nice. An eclectic menu and a nice bar especially if you want to eat light. it is always busy around dinner time. The bread is deadly, so beware, you can't eat just one!
