“Good Food and Daily Specilas”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

We have been many times to this restaurant and have always been happy with our meals. There are daily specials such as wing night, rib night, ect. and on Sundays kids eat free. The atmosphere is kid friendly along with a kid's menu. We have come here as a couple, with friends and grandkids and always felt right at home. One of my favorite entrees is the chicken under a brick. We have also enjoyed the Greek salad, wings, enchilada, and risotto. If you are ingested in meeting friends to watch a game together there is a long bar with many tv's and lots of great apps. Of the many times we have eaten here there have only been a couple of times that we waited long for the food. However we do tend to eat early, around six, so that might be why we haven't had to wait too long. My only complaint would be that some of the wait staff act as though they are doing a favor to wait on you. We have had some servers that are very uninterested and lacking a personality for waiting on the public. However the food and atmosphere keeps us coming back with the hopes that we will get one of the more friendly servers there!

“Only if you have a LOT of time!”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

Went on a TUE night, place was busy but hardly slammed. Asked for Sangria on a nice summer evening, 10 minutes later, oh, we didn't make any today. Ordered a beer and Cosmo, which took 20 minutes. And so did the 'fresh baked' bread which was cold and tasteless, Dinner finally arrived after almost an hour. Our waitress was apologetic and did offer us a free round of drinks, but I'd never go back, the food was good but not THAT good!

“Great Sushi at Hale Street Tavern”
Reviewed July 17, 2012

Had dinner w/hubby last night at Hale Street Tavern. It was our second visit there, one other time with daughter and her family. It seem Hale Street is always packed!!! Which speaks well for the restaurant. I wanted to return specifically for the "Beverly Farms" roll. It's a yummy tuna sushi roll that big enough for an entree. So along with that I have their spring rolls which were also very good. Hubby have baked haddock. A good size piece of haddock arrived with sauteed veggies and mashed garlic potatoes. He ate every bit, although the potatoes were very salty. We had a "Groupon" so a free chocolate brownie with ice cream and hot fudge came with the meal. This is a very interesting venue in that all ages of clients are having a great time. Families with small kids, young people on dates and older retired couples out dinner. The service was good, once our waitress showed up... There's nightly specials, so check the out and enjoy.

“Food okay but service is terrible and abusive”
Reviewed July 14, 2012

I had dinner with a party of 5 and ordered $300 worth of sushi. While the food was good when if came an hour and a half after ordering, the waitress was terrible. After ordering she came back 25 minutes later to confirm our order, then again 10 minutes later. She treated us like naughty schoolchildren and when we asked where the food was an hour after being seated, she rolled her eyes at us and went to complain about us to her coworkers. We flagged the manager down and since she's really a waitress, didn't really care. We watched the staff complain about us and look at us for about 20 minutes before we finally got our bills which were not split up into two bills as we asked in the beginning when we sat down. We were never asked if we wanted another glass of wine or anything else the entire time we were seated. When she asked if we all wanted water we said yes please but she only brought 3 glasses of water. I felt like her entertainment was making fun of the customers and laughing at them. It was a very strange experience and probably a result of lack of management.

“Yummy BBQ, Skip the Haddock”
Reviewed June 29, 2012

This restaurant has a homey pub/tavern atmosphere that is pleasant, casual, inviting, and fun. Service was adequate - nothing over the top - but friendly and efficient. They don't bring bread to your table so we started with the zucchini fritters, which were a creative vegetarian version of a crab cake. I would return here for this appetizer alone - it was that good. The baked haddock entree that followed was disappointing. Here we were, a 5 minute walk from the ocean and a stones throw from Gloucester, and the fish wasn't fresh. It had that "on the verge of ammonia" kind of stale taste, and was smothered in a thick, flavorless sauce. It seemed kind of inexplicable to us. This entree should be removed from the menu if it can't be served extremely fresh and with a delicate sauce. Fortunately, we also ordered the Hale St BBQ Plate, and it was delicious. So the experience was a little uneven for a Thursday night. We would go back, but would stick to the BBQ entrees like pulled pork, and skip the fish.
