Another one of my fav places. Very peaceful.
Brookside Gardens is, 50-acre public within Wheaton Regional Park. There are several distinct areas: Aquatic Garden, Azalea Garden, Butterfly Garden, Children's Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Style Garden, etc., Admission is free. Pets are not allowed

The nature center itself is fairly small, but with some neat exhibits and animals. In the main exhibit room, there is a large turtle enclosure and a few aquariums with frogs and snakes. To the side you'll find a small room for the smaller kids, with a toddler-level microscope and a variety of nature related activities and kids books. In the neighboring auditorium-style room there is a large bee hive, another aquarium with turtles and one for local fish, and best of all a small seating area looking through a window to a variety of bird feeders. That's a great spot for bird watching.

Downhill from the center is a large pond with a handicapped-accessible and child-friendly boardwalk path around it. In summer, it's a great spot to see some wildlife and pond plants. Uphill you'll find a number of hiking trails that are a variety of lengths and difficulties. Follow the driveway to its end at the top of the hill and you'll find a recreation of an early pioneer cabin, a sense garden designed for children, and off of a dirt trail past the cabin a large meadow that has some additional exceptional bird watching.

All in all, a great way to spend the afternoon with your family, and at the far end of the parking lot you can get access to Brookside Gardens as well. I highly recommend it.

Brookside is a wonderful place for a peaceful walk. There is always something new and different in their exhibitions. In addition you will find seasonal plantings which always attract your attention.
If your a mediator, yoga fan or just want some fresh air and a romantic walk this is a great place for you. Bundle up for the winter months as the wind can whip around but spring, summer and fall are magnificent.
