“A Perfect Weekend Get Away”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

We wanted a relaxing weekend and that expectation has been more than fulfilled. Carol and Mike are gracious hosts. I feel like they are old friends that I just met. Our room (the Nellie Byrd) was perfect. We slept so well. Hiking around the island we saw a bald eagle and other avian creatures. Breakfast was more than excellent (and healthy) both mornings...and the coffee so good. Don't miss the Friday evening wine tasting next door. We also enjoyed a fun day in St. Michael's, just an easy 10 mile drive away. Looking forward to a return visit!

The Lazy Jack Inn is very peaceful, comfortable and welcoming. We stayed in the Nellie Byrd room, with an extremely comfortable bed! The food is great, as it was organic and delicious. We look forward to an opportunity to return to the Lazy Jack Inn.

We also enjoyed being able to walk around, in lieu of more driving. If you want to get away from the hustle 'n bustle of the daily grind, this is a great escape and was much needed for us.

We arrived at the Lazy Jack Inn and were immediately greeted by Carol, the owner. She was so friendly and gave us a great and very informative tour of the place! We stayed in the Nellie Byrd room which had an amazing view of Dogwood Harbor, tasteful and comfortable furniture, and a wonderful gas fireplace. The next morning, we met Carol's husband, Mike, who was equally as friendly and helpful when we asked about places for dinner, etc. Mike was full of interesting stories about the area and is obviously quite proud of his beautiful B & B. Each day we had a gourmet breakfast prepared by Carol and served by Mike - they make a great team!! As we dined and thoroughly enjoyed each bite, we also appreciated looking out the many picture windows in the sunroom/dining room to the scenic harbor! We have stayed in many B & B's over the years, and would recommend this charming place to anyone, without hesitation!!!

We stayed at The Lazy Jack 8/31 -9/2 of 2013 It was the first time at a B&B. It was a very nice experience, our host Carol and Captain Mike could not do enough for us and the other 6 guests.. The breakfast was first rate.. The Inn located on the Dogwood Harbor, simple, beautiful and relaxing.. The Inn is well kept and maintained.. Antique furniture and nautical items adorn each room..We stayed in the East Room overlooking the harbour, wonderful view.. We took our bikes and rode the island which is not very big, gave us an opportunity to explore and see just how the Waterman live.. The Lazy Jack will be how we rate other B&Bs that I'm sure we will be staying at,now that we have been biten by the B&B bug.. Thank you Carol and Capt Mike

We just stayed at the Lazy Jack Inn on 9/3-9/4. It was our first experience at a B & B. Honestly we couldn't have picked a better b&b to initiate us on the experience. The Lazy Jack is a beautiful home located on Dogwood Harbor in Tilghman. Sitting in the sunroom/dining area in the a.m. gives you a view of the sun coming up over the water. All the common areas are welcoming. The West Room where we stayed was beautifully decorated and comfortable, the bed was quite comfortable. We spent some of our time relaxing on the wide front porch. I could have sat there all day. The owners, Mike and Carol, could not have been more hospitable. Carol's breakfast was stellar. From the fruit salad, to the homemade muffins to the tomatoe and cheese omelets....best breakfast we've had in years. The only draw back were that my husband being 6'3' had to watch his head a bit going up the steps and in the shower but the house is over 150 years old so we expected that...just be prepared to duck if you're tall....Thanks Mike and Carol for a wonderful experience.

We have stayed a number of B&Bs over the years and Lazy Jack Inn ranks up there with the best of them.

As this is a Bed and breakfast, let's address those two key elements.

Bed- we stayed in the Garden Suite. It is the only room on the first floor. It has a lovely sitting room that faces the gardens. With our stay in mid-July the gardens were in full bloom. They also provided produce that was used in the breakfasts. The sitting area was a nice place to while away time reading on a rainy day. As the room is in the front of the building, it does not get the noise from the fishing boats leaving the harbor in the early morning , but of course, there is no view of the water. The bathroom was quite large with a jetted tub and walk in shower. The only possible issue is the bed, while it is comfortable, it seems a bit small for a queen-size. Other than that, the room was very comfortable and roomy.

We looked into the other rooms and they all have their attractions. I think any one of the rooms would be suitable for several days. The Garden Suite and the Nellie Byrd are the two largest rooms, but he East and West rooms were more than adequate in size.

Now, to the breakfasts. Carol (one of the inn keepers) was very solicitous of any dietary instructions when we made the reservations. So, we knew ahead of time that any needs would be taken care of. The breakfast started with a fruit plate of some kind, made with locally produced fruit for the most part (melons, berries etc). But these were just a common plate of plain fruit, We had wonderful tarts and other concoctions from Mike and Carol. Even the day the island lost power, they still came through with a marvelous breakfast. The main course at breakfast was egg-based- wonderful omelets, quiches and the like, again with come locally farmed produce or from the Inn's gardens. Everything was fresh and delicious. A pretty good cup of coffee also.

The setting- on the working harbor was pleasant. Not too much noise, but it is a working fishing harbor so there are boats and pick up trucks making noise at different hours. Goes with the territory. Overall, probably much quieter than being in one of the B&Bs in St. Michaels. Tilghman Island is definitely out of the way and quiet. That can be a blessing or a curse. If you want a lot of easily accessible action, stay in St. Michaels. If you want to be on "island time", stay at the Lazy Jack. There are a couple of good restaurants on the island and Mike and Carol will give you an unvarnished review. They can also give you a good report on other restaurants in the area .

Mike has spent many years on the waters of Chesapeake Bay and he can provide lots of recommendations on things to do and tell you about the history of the area. Mike also runs the lighthouse boat tour, one thing we didn't have time to do and the weather wasn't cooperative the one day we could have gone. The Lady Patty sail charter is nearby as is the Tilghman Island Store. And the Island would be a good place to ride a bike or just relax.

Our first experience at a B&B on the Eastern Shore will be difficult to top. We stayed here for my boyfriend's birthday weekend. The place was absolutely gorgeous and inviting. Carol and Mike were very sweet and went out of their way to be accommodating and helpful with dinner suggestions, places to see, etc. Breakfast was wonderful--well-presented, delicious and healthy with lovely personal touches. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back for Bed & Breakfast & Birthday!

Room Tip: The Garden Suite was very nice.
