When you are in the deep South of St Mary's County Maryland, stop in the Tall Timbers neighborhood. No stop lights or stop signs, just one building is "downtown". It's a wonderful find of fine downhome folk with common sense, just 90 mins South of DC. Chiefs is the bar & restaurant. The food is quite good, very reasonable (compared to DC prices) and the atmosphere is from a time gone by. The building is J W Dent, it houses the post office, deli, grosary store, liquor store, Ice, bait, and popular restaurant & bar - Chief's.

Need a place to go on a cold and windy December night? Head into Chief's...for the great food, great service and friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Visiting the area and was directed to this place. Best advice possible. I don't even like oysters, but the fried oysters made my mouth water. Service on this busy night was excellent.

Everyone recommended we go to Chiefs. We had to taste the famous stuffed ham which was delicious. Seafood was very good and the atmosphere was rustic but very typical of the locality in general

We just discovered Chiefs several weeks ago. My Dad had the seafood chowder and said it was the best he has ever eaten. We went back this weekend and they were featuring the Maryland crab vegetable soup. It was delicious! The fish and chips - fried flounder - served with two sides was ordered by everyone at our table. All agreed that we will, order it again. We went midday and had no problem getting a table, but we heard on weekends you better be early or you will be waiting for table. It's not a fancy restaurant but more of a place where the whole family can enjoy an excellent meal among friendly locals.
