“Relaxing and Comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2008

First, this is not like any hotel. It wouldn't be fair to compare it. Imagine that you are going to visit your aunt and uncle in their old home, and they let you stay in one of their bedrooms. This is literally what you are doing (no, I am not related to the caretakers, though).

The man and his wife (I presume) live on the property and will take good care of you in the morning. Breakfast is nothing extravagant (cereal, fruit, coffee) but they did offer to make bacon and eggs (not what I eat.) You eat on a lanai area with a relaxing garden setting and the backdrop of a marina. One nice touch, they made a special effort to get me skim milk when I expressed a preference for it the night before.

The room is nicely furnished with antique furniture and very clean. Mine had a phone, TV and a bathroom like you would expect in any hotel. There was also an iron available. The paint is peeling a bit on the baseboards, but this would probably be the case with your aunt and uncle's home, too. It just adds to the ambiance. My room overlooked the marina. One consideration--there were no elevators apparent with only a narrow staircase with several bends to get up to the 2nd floor. If you need an elevator, then this place might not be for you or you might want to inquire about a ground floor room.

There is a library with couches and chairs is you would like to get out of your room. The grounds are lushly landscaped with flower gardens. Solomons Island is safe and relaxing environment with shops and quite a few restaurants (although they are pricey.) The area is nice for a walk in the evening (or the day if you prefer.) This is definitely one of the better places to stay in the Patuxent River area.

I went to Solomons for a writing retreat, and stayed at the Inn. My boyfriend and I had a lovely time there.

We stayed in Islandscape, the ground floor room in the attached carriage house. The room was quite nice -- but the bathroom was wonderful.

The room had a queen bed and a separate seating area with wicker furniture that sits in front of windows that look out onto the harbor. It is a beautiful view, and I enjoyed waking up early and looking out of the windows at the harbor and the beautiful Iris blooming right outside. The room is great for duck watching -- the ducks come right up onto the lawn and my boyfriend saw a mamma duck with her babies trailing behind her. The room has one of those fake fireplaces that you turn on with a switch -- it doesn't have any fire in it, just a fake fire.

The bathroom was amazing. It has a huge whirlpool tub, and they supplied us with bath salts for it. The bathroom was so nice that I wish I had one at home just like it.

The breakfasts are eaten on a little porch in the main house. Every morning there was coffee, oj, freshly baked coffee cake, a fruit cup, and an entree. The first morning our entree was almond french toast and sausages and the second morning we had a shrimp and egg "puff" which was amazing. The breakfasts were really, really good -- I would go back for the breakfast alone.

Coffee is available at 7 am for early risers who need a cup before breakfast -- which I always do.

I loved my stay at the Solomons Victorian Inn.

The inn was beautiful and beyond what we expected. The jacuzzi tub was an amazing way to relax after a long day of driving and walking. The breakfast was great as well. One morning we had stuffed french toast, another day we had chili rellenos eggs...both were GREAT, and there was tons of fruit. The inn is located just off the busy boardwalk area but is an easy walking distance. It is a fabulous place for a weekend getaway!

  • Liked — The comfy room
  • Disliked — a little pricey for us..but on par with other B &Bs

I was on Govt. TDY to NAS Pax River the first week of November 2005 and took the wife with me. She needed a get-away and absolutely loved this place. We stayed in the Harbor Sunset room, which was $50.00 a day (weekdays) above my per diem, but well worth it. We looked in one of the standard rooms and it looked very nice as well.

The weather was gorgeous, and she was able to take daily walks on the nearby boardwalk and up to a small park area where she could watch the helos from the base as they flew training exercises. It’s easily within walking distance of several bars and restaurants. The hostess was very friendly and the breakfasts she prepared were excellent.

I’ve never stayed at the two chain motels on Solomons, but from what I’ve heard the Victorian Inn far surpasses them. The property is very quiet, and in a lesser traveled area on the island. Unless you are one of those hard-to-please people, I don’t believe you’ll regret your stay. There is a very good chance we will be going back.

The Victorian Inn is a nice place for a weekend escape. The room (Manitou) and bathroom were smaller than our taste, but they were clean and comfortable. The location of the inn was very convenient to good restaurants and walks along the harbor. The breakfast was delicious, and the hosts were friendly. They had yummy breads and cookies available all day.
