Here's what's wonderful about this hotel: the location. Here's what very nice: 1 - the bedding 2 - the breakfast bar. Here's what's awful: 1- the oppressively loud and difficult to adjust room air conditioner; 2 -the parking -- you park in an adjacent parking garage and walk across a short skybridge into the hotel. Not terrible, except that we were there for a wedding and had the usual ton of luggage. There was no one to help, or even help us find a cart. A woman coming in alone at night probably wouldn't love it.

I do want to put in a good word for the location. If you need to stay in suburban maryland for some reason, take advantage of the opportunity to stay in downtown Silver Spring. There is a new, beautiful civic center, lots of interesting shops in walking distance (across from the hotel is a Whole Foods), and a classic movie theatre. Best of all, the redevelopment of Silver Spring that has occurred over the last decade or so has taken its inspiration from some refurbished art deco architecture (notably the move theatre), so the whole downtown has a look of a disney movie lot, except the people are real, the buildings authentic and they sell things that don't have ears printed on them. And it has a metro stop very near by that goes to downtown DC on the Red Line. If you are looking for a less expensive alternative to do some sightseeing in DC this isn't bad.

Clearly, the worst thing was the air conditioning unit -- old and clunky and impossibly loud. And I have to admit that I can't figure out why a hotel that clearly needs a conference/business clientele to survive hasn't just done ahead and gone for free wifi.

Finally, I bit more on the garage arrangements. This is a downtown hotel in a tight, landlocked situation, so you need to be a bit forgiving. They are taking advantage of an adjacent city parking garage, and have connected it to the hotel lobby (which is on an upper floor) through a short sky bridge. The problems are that there is no hint of this issue when you book, and when you arrive at the hotel entrance the only sign directs you around the corner. Unless you know you are supposed to enter a city lot, rather than a hotel garage, it is a challenge to figure out exactly where to do. Second, if you need help with luggage -- even someone to make sure you have a cart -- good luck. We did arrive later in the evening, so perhaps there is more assistance available in the day.

Last comment: the bedding was actually quite nice, and I would have rated the sleep comfort a lot higher had it not been for the air conditioner, which was so loud that it was hard to get to sleep.

I stayed here for business and agree with most of the other reviews. This is a standard Courtyard. The rooms are large and clean. The location is great. You can walk to a theater, a mall, Whole Foods, and restaurants, which run the gamut from fast food to full service. We had use of a gym connected to the hotel, which was much nicer than a typical hotel gym though it did get really crowded early in the morning.

As another reviewer noted, service at breakfast was slow. The server wasn’t lax, but there were too many tables for one person to handle. Adding another server or two for peak times would help tremendously.

The other issue was the air conditioner. It didn’t seem to regulate temperature too well. When it cycled on the room got really cold, no matter what I set the temperature to. When it cycled off, the room got too warm, again no matter what I set the temperature to. When it cycled on, it was REALLY loud, so loud that it woke me up a few times the first night.

I would stay here again, but only if I needed to be in downtown Silver Spring.

The downtown Silver Spring Courtyard is in a great location and has most of the amenities you can count on from Courtyard. The parking is in an adjacent public garage that is connected to the hotel by a walking bridge - there is a fee during the week but it free on weekends. The hotel is also connected to a gym, use of which is included in the hotel fee.

Two complaints: While the breakfast buffet was the standard reasonable fare, the service was lax. I had to hunt down the servers when I wanted silverware and when I wanted to pay. i know this feature of most Courtyards is being changed, but how hard is it to assign a staff person to seat and charge people.

The other issue was the vent in the bathroom, which was growing somekind of fur that looked like the seed bed for legionnaires disease. The rest of the place was spotless, so this oversight makes no sense. Please clean the vents!

Great location but high cost for your basic Courtyard Marriott. The hotel is within walking distance of a movie theater, restaurants, shopping, and the metro. You also get to use the full gym right next door. The hotel was clean, customer service was good, but having stayed in Couryard's for a lot less in other cities, we thought it was a little expensive. Then again we lived ten minutes away for three years and only stayed here as we moved out of town, so maybe we are biased.
