“Restaurant Manager needs some basic social skills”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2008

I ate one weekday morning at the Courtard Cafe. I tried to order eggs "a la carte", but the Ethiopian immigrants working as waitresses had a hard time communicating, and after I sat down, I was presented with a check for the full buffet, something like $12.99. Eggs a-la-carte are and have been available at courtyard cafes for the 13 years that I have been patronizing them, and they are roughly $3-4.00
What was much more disturbing was the unbelievable attitude of the restaurant manager, who seemed to think he was in a debating class, refuting everything I said and becoming argumentive. It was stunning to experience this sort of conduct in a courtyard.
I complained to the front deskabout the price for a plate of eggs; the breakfast was "compted", but I never did get a chance to finish my eggs: they were whisked away while I spoke with the desk person.
I don't subscribe to the theory of "The customer is always right," but this was way over the line, an attempt at humiliation.

This is a very lovely hotel, excellent downtown location, beautiful rooms, cubic fridge in room, lovely decorum, fireplace in lobby and Internet computers in lobby for guest.

They feature complimentary coffee every day. Was available on Friday but not Saturday! The complimentary coffee was not made until one full hour later! The clerk was so nasty as she said, " Make your coffee in the room." That room coffee was nasty and bitter! This morning the knuckleheads were 45 minutes late making the complimentary coffee.

This morning when I checked out, the TV checkout system was BROKE!

The front desk staff was really friendly and helpful but housekeeping did not seem to understand their job.

The first of three nights there were dirty, stained and wrinkled sheets on the bed. The second night there was clean sheets. The third night there were clean sheets again...with a card explaining Marriott's program for being green/sustainable involves changing the sheets between customers but not each night during the customer’s stay. From my experience they got it backwards. I will not stay here again and I will not recommend it to anybody.

We had the Courtyard Marriott in Silver Spring as our wedding hotel.

There were some difficulties early on with our booking but it was cleared up and we were given a free suite for our wedding night for our troubles.

Clean, convenient, friendly, well decorated. Central gathering area in lobby for guests.

We were very happy.

No parking fees on weekends.

One set of family members ate dinner in the hotel and did not like it. I had advised them of many fine hotels in the area so I'm not really sure what they expected from hotel lobby food. There are plenty of great places to walk to.

A great value in the DC area.

I stayed at the property for business. I have been to the Hilton nearby before and like it better. The prices are comparable. I recommend the Hilton because:

Their desk clerks are nice.

The food is better.

The rooms are cleaner.

I do not recommend the Marriott because:

I do not speak a Spanish or an African Language and cannot understand the staff which is an issue for business travelers.

The room service took over two hours and many calls to the front desk.

The bill had many errors.

People seemed to have a lack of caring for any guest.

I found bed bugs in my room (yes, it's true). When I told the front desk, they really did not seem to care.

On a whole, I am not impressed with Silver Spring, but have to stay there for business with The Discovery Channel. I would not recommend this for anyone out-of-town on vacation to Washington, DC.

The location is OK as Silver Spring is becoming revitalized, but still has a long, long way to go. The hotel is convenient to some mid-level chain restaurants, but nothing notable. I suggest staying in Bethesda - a far nicer area. The desk clerks were not nice and some could barely speak English. The were not overly concerned with any problem and acted like they were doing me a favor for just giving directions to find the subway. The rooms were not bad and were clean. It's not a bad place to stay and is convenient to public transportation if you are without a car.

Great location; on the periphery of a shopping district with restaurants, theaters and stores close by. Whole Foods Market across the street provided supplies for our in-room fridge.

Hotel was very clean, staff was very cordial. Lobby is on the 3rd floor so you enter through the parking garage or an elevator connecting to a small alcove with street access. (Elevator is very slow!)

I was warned not to stay here because I'd have to pay parking in addition to the room, but parking was $5.50 a day and I didn't have to pay on Saturday or Sunday.

Hotel was never busy in the lobby, restaurant, or bar but parking was tough on Saturday because of a concert going on in the mall area.
