“Pretty good Ethiopian in Silver Spring”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

Eating Ethiopian is always an especially communal, sociable experience. The meat & vegetarian dishes alike are tasty without being gourmet. I liked the injera (Ethiopian bread) better here than at many other Ethiopian restaurants I've been to (not quite so filling as elsewhere). If you're a fan of the cuisine, you'll appreciate having a quality place to go in Silver Spring; if you're new to Ethiopian, this will be a good introduction.

“Small, cozy, & authentic - with tasty food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

My friend and I stumbled upon this Ethiopian restaurant, and we were pleased. Service was quick. The restaurant is small, cozy, and authentic.

And the food was quite good - we ate a Vegetarian Combination meal. I recommend the Combination entrees - they allow you to sample a good mix of different things, along with the traditional injera (Ethiopian bread).

Finally, I would say that I consider this restaurant to have some of the best Ethiopian restaurant among the many other Ethiopian restaurants that I have tried in DC including several on 18th St in DC and some others in the U St area.

“Exciting, authentic, delicious Ethiopian cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

Today a marvelous Sunday lunch at this Ethiopian restaurant in our new neighborhood of Silver Spring...only five minutes by foot from Red Line Metro stop. Having lived in Ethiopia for three years, and having searched out good Ethiopian eateries in the States and elsewhere for three decades, we thought ABOL was one of the top three we have experienced. In Amharic, "abol" translates as "authentic" and the food and service are exactly that. We tried one of the combination platters; highlights were a robust, flavorful and distinctive "doro we't" or chicken stew (served traditionally here with a hard-boiled egg), a sweet beef stew with carrots, and perhaps my favorite, "yekik alicha" or yellow split peas. ABOL is a must stop for residents and visitors.
