This charming place has many of the components of an extraordinary inn but falls short of its price tag and the expectations created by its promotion. Our master suite at the Inn at Perry Cabin was very nicely appointed. The bed and bath linens were the luxurious I've ever seen in a hotel. However, the bathrobe had rust stains at the neck and there was hair on the couch and in the soaking tub. The leather on the chest which revealed our bedroom TV was peeling from the chest. Our dinner was expertly prepared and presented but the walk to the dining room from our room was through the inn's parking lot, past the service vehicles and litter that evidently blew off a trash truck. The walk gave the sense of a a motel court. Why not utilize the waterside walkway to accent the most valuable asset of the setting, the view of the Miles River?

While doing some electronic banking the evening on my return home, I discovered an extra $245 had been debited to my account from the Inn. It took repeated calls to the Inn's accounting department to rectify the error. All in all, the IPC missed the mark.

The only reason why my husband and I rate the Inn at Perry Cabin Above Average instead of excellent is the service.

The Pros:
- beautiful site
- wonderful rooms. We stayed in the new section, based on previous reviewers' recommendations, and were very pleased. We were in a Master Suite, which was pricy, but since our plan was to take advantage of the extra space by reading next to the fire in our sitting room, it was well worth it. The room was spacious, with lots of nook and crannies (desk area, balcony, french doors to separate bedroom from sitting area and entry...) and the amenties were modern -- great soaking bathtub and wonderful towels, robes and linens. And I appreciated the Moulton-Brown shampoos/lotions.
- privacy. We are not fond of B&Bs because we often feel a bit claustrophobic in them and its tough to truly be alone. At the same time, we don't like the enormous all inclusive places where you can get lost in the shuffle. The size of Perry Cabin is a perfect middleground. The inn wasn't very full the weekend we went and therefore we had even more privacy than we expected.
- the bar. Great cozy room. Old leather furniture, though admittedly not as comfy as I would have liked, gave the bar room a nice feel. We took advantage of the chess and checkers laid out in the room, and enjoyed beer on tap and tasty free spicy almonds. (Small complaint: I wish they had lit the fire in the barroom -- I am guessing they would have if I had asked...)
- shoe shine. We left out my tired boots and my husband's loafers and they were returned clean and shiny the next morning.
- the bikes. We borrowed the complimentary tandem bike for a spin around the property...

The Cons:
- the service. With an inn as pricy as this place, the service really should be top-notch. Sadly, it isn't. A few examples: (1) On Friday night after a dinner at 208 Talbot, we decided to request a movie to watch in our room. It is a complimentary service at the inn. My husband called to request 2 movies and was told that they would be brought up. 15 minutes later, he called again to see what had happened since no one came. He was told that the movies we had requested couldn't be found. It would have been a heck of a lot more helpful if the attendant had called us back to tell us that instead of having us wait. (2) We had dinner in the bar one night and drinks there another night. One of the bartenders was friendly and affable. But the other bartender wasn't friendly -- we felt guilty asking him any questions. (3) No late checkout. We requested a one hour delay in checkout, hoping to check out at 1pm instead of noon. We were told that it just wasn't possible. I could understand if we had requested a checkout at 3pm, but we were only asking for one hour and were still declined. Its difficult to understand why they couldn't do a one hour delay in checkout, especially considering that the inn hadn't been full the night before.
- no free coffee or breakfast. We spent a high sum on our suite, so I would think that at least they would have laid out in the lobby a pot of coffee, if not a few muffins for the guests... Breakfast in the restaurant was pricy. We instead went 1/2 mile down the road to Blue Crab coffee for chai tea and coffee, and bought freshly made scones and sticky buns at Gourmet on the Bay (which, as as aside, also offers wonderful wines and yummy high end snacks and lunches to go) -- I recommend this as a cheaper breakfast that is delicious and a great way to enjoy St Michael's downtown in the morning.

All that said, the inn had a nice feel. It is by far the most high end place to stay in St Michaels, but (despite the service issues mentioned above) it still has a warm atmosphere. We will go back. I think that in high season (summer?) the inn must feel more crowded and the few blocks that comprise"downtown" st Michaels would not feel as special as it does in these more quiet months.

Thumbs up to the Inn and kudos to them on the well-done expansion (I had been there years ago before the new suites of rooms were installed). Let's just hope the service improves to be on equal par with the feel and look of this speical inn.

wonderful night spent there, everyone that worked there was so pleasant. The older part is a a bit "charming" w/antiques, we didn't stay in the newer part w/the luxurious suites but they looked divine. Dinner was extraordinary, substitutions NOT a problem which is SUCH a relief for a picky eater, the grounds were beautiful and sitting on those chairs by the water w/a glass of pinot noir as the sun was setting was heaven. Not too far of a drive but it felt like a million miles away. Can't WAIT to go back. The linens were divine, waitstaff so accomodating. Everyone who worked there seemed SO HAPPY!
