Knowing nothing about the area before going on vacation to the Eastern Shore, I'd been hunting through online sites looking for places to have dinner in St. Michaels. Based on our desire to have the whole "crabs in bay seasoning on the newspaper" experience, we'd narrowed it down to a few places -- and then we stopped by the Maritime Museum store where the cute salesclerk recommended the Crab and Steak house - she said it was always a bit better and less expensive than The Crab Claw.
All I can say is... head to the Crab and Steak House! And ask for Diane to wait on you! We started with the raw oysters and the crabs ( which Diane nicely showed us how to tear apart without making us feel like novices -- which obviously we were!) and then had the crab imperial, the baked scallops, the seafood pasta and the crab dinner (a combo of soft-shell crab and crab cake). Everything was absolutely delicious -- and the hush puppies that came with the scallops were literally the best all of us had ever had. Diane had recommended a great wine - which was on sale -- and we were absolutely amazed at the end of the night that we had eaten 2 appetizers, 4 entrees, 2 bottles of wine and a dessert and including tip, it came to only $55 a person!! The atmosphere is casual, it sits right on the water and its just a delightful place to go!!
