Stopped here upon arriving in town and ordered the haddock sandwiches. They were fried perfectly. Sometimes the amazingly simple meal is the best.

Big Al’s is a family owned and operated establishment that has been serving the community for many decades. It has been a smallish “market” for as long as I have been going there but it always had some of the best burgers in town and, because it was a family business it also had some of the very best seafood to be had in this area. Recently the family members have added to the menu by adding a smoker just outside the front door that cooks up some great pork and brisket. The pulled pork sandwich with some potato salad on the side is my favorite at lunchtime but I know that anything that the Poore (Big Al’s family name) family cooks up will be good! You can eat there in the evening as well with specials that are home cooking favorites and you will be mixing with real locals, watermen, hunting guides and many others while you do. Oh, and it is still the only place I know that you can get a great sandwich and buy your fishing license at the same time in the same place! Try it, you will like it!
