First time to stay at a bed and breakfast-quite charming, water front, stayed here with good friends. Hosts were very friendly, only comment would be that this type of accommodations are not good for couples that have small children that start crying early in the morning. Good breakfast and easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. .

This is our second year staying here, and once again we had a fantastic time. Sherry and Charles are perfect hosts and are always available to provide you with information and recommendations about anything in the local area. The rooms are nice and clean and you can enjoy sitting on the first floor enclosed porch, the 2nd floor open porch or on the dock.

With on premises parking It is a perfect location for walking or biking to downtown other local sights.

The breakfasts cannot be missed, and are served in a beautiful dining room, or in the gourmet kitchen with a beautiful view of the harbor.

We came last year with friends and added another couple this year. We look forward to returning next year, and bringing more people to this gem of a B&B.

We stayed in the Princess Room - Advertised as the best view of the harbor - Actually the view is from the common living room. Also advertised as New full bath - actually the bath is assessed from a common hallway and stairway. The Queen size room is almost fully taken up by the queen size bed, you can walk around the bed, but it is close, the closet door does not fully open due to the bed.
Limited to one small bottle and bar of soap. We "borrowed" a towel from an empty room, as we did not have any the 2nd.day.
The common areas in the B & B are cluttered with books every where, just stacked up. Cardboard boxes are sitting on chairs in the kitchen and the other chairs have stuffed animals on them, as if you are not supposed to sit. The wooden patio needs repair as the boards are warped and loose.
The breakfasts were the only redeeming event of the B & B.

We wanted a short getaway to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Hambleton Inn is a relatively small B&B located right on the harbor, with a nice view of boats and the edge of the maritime museum, just one block off the main street. The owners are friendly and accommodating, and serve up a full and tasty breakfast. Our room on the second floor had close access to a covered porch, nice for coffee, wine and reading. Everything in town is walkable. We would certainly return.

We stayed during April, 2013 in the first floor Dorchester king room, which offers a harbor view through the enclosed front porch. The mattress is comfortable, the sheets are soft, and the room is tastefully if simply decorated. The bathroom and shower are very adequate with good hot water and pressure. The hotel is only a 1.5 hour drive from Columbia, MD via routes 100, 97 and 50, and you are rewarded with a waterfront, luxury experience without the hassle of airport waiting lines and security. The hosts Sherry and Charles are very warm and hospitable, and will make you feel very welcome in their establishment.
We opted to stay mid week to take advantage of their "cooking lessons" offered at no extra charge on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Upon arrival, you are offered complimentary sherry in the lobby, which is also available free of charge in your room. You may read over a variety of local brochures in the comfortable front porch to plan your stay. Fresh coffee is available at 7 a.m. in the lobby for early risers. Our first day cooking lesson featured a delicious dessert prepared skillfully by Sherry with the zest of fresh Meyer lemons, juice, sugar and eggs and magically transformed into a silky smooth "pudding" served over fresh strawberries with whipped cream in short order... We were presented with complimentary aprons to recall our experience. Sherry makes the lesson an enjoyable experience and you will leave with a recipe and confidence to re-create the treat at home.
On Wednesday, we secured tickets for an "ad-hoc" pre-season cruise of the Miles River and St. Michael's harbor which conflicted with Wednesday's cooking session - choices, choices....
Sherry provided us with a coupon book full of discount coupons for local shops and restaurants (and the cruise), of which we took full advantage. St. Michaels' offers several streets with interesting, historic residential architecture. The sheltered harbor with sailboats is directly in front of the Hambleton, as well as a boatyard and sheltered lagoon on either side, and a short footbridge to the nearby famous Crab Claw restaurant. On our stay, we watched a gentleman operating a radio-controlled model sailboat in the lagoon as we sat on the pair of well-weathered Adirondack chairs on the front lawn. There are many restaurants to choose from for your lunch and dinner, and too many shops to explore on one visit.
You will be treated to a three course breakfast in the first floor dining room which will exceed your expectations, especially their breakfast surprise "desserts". Be sure to ask Sherry and Charles for their personal recommendations on local attractions and restaurants. They seem to personally know all the business owners and the back story behind many of the businesses.
Ample free parking is available in front of the property. In short, if you are looking for a true get-away experience without the hassle of a long drive or flight, this is it.

Room Tip: The Dorchester king room is only a few steps from the front entrance.

I wanted to like this place. The Hambleton is perfectly situated - a block or so off the main street in St. Michael's, with a view of the water - so it's pretty and quiet yet steps to restaurants and stores. The hosts are the perfect combination (for us) of friendly and welcoming but not too "in your face". The property is clean and well-kept-up. Although it was rainy and cold when we went, in nicer weather the porches would be a lovely place to sit and read. Breakfast was beautifully presented. The decanters of sherry and port were a nice touch.

But.....for the price, I wanted more. The rooms were nice but not especially memorable. Amenities were pretty much lacking, even things you'd expect in a budget motel, for example, the tissue box was empty, and we grabbed some toilet paper from an empty neighboring room when we ran out. No little bottles of lotion, shower caps, or anything else (except shampoo) - we even had to keep switching the bar of soap between the shower and sink because we only had one bar. I'm sure, had we asked, that we would have been given tissues and a bar of soap - but I would prefer that the hosts provide this thoughtfulness without me having to ask. No chocolates on the bed - actually, no housekeeping at all in the room, at least for the two nights we were there. The breakfasts, while generous enough and of good quality, provided no choices. A fruit first course, a sweet last course, and in between, good luck! The first morning had bacon and eggs which I do not eat, so I had potatoes. The second has an asparagus quiche which my husband didn't love, so he had potatoes! Substitutions or limited choices would have been much appreciated.

In total - not really bad, but not satisfactory or special enough to warrant a second visit.

Room Tip: We had room #4 (Talbot) which had a nice private bathroom. Room #3 (Queen Anne - where we grabbed t...

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hambleton Inn (St. Michael's, MD) for his birthday weekend, which was also Labor Day Weekend, at the end of August /beginning of September 2012. I had originally booked the best room in the hotel. A week before our stay, the owner/manager called to ask me whether we could switch to a smaller room because another couple was staying for a longer duration than we were and wanted the better room. Since I was provided such short notice, and I meant this trip to be my boyfriend's birthday present, I no choice but to agree to what was to be a serious downgrade in room quality. I wouldn't advise that innkeepers treat first-time guests this way, as it might seriously make them consider ever becoming returning guests!

The room we were given, the 'Somerset', was on the ground floor and faced the parking area. It had shutters on the windows that provided what I'd barely consider to be 'privacy'. Worse yet, the bathroom had swinging 'OK Corral' -style doors, which provided very little privacy, if anyone used the facilities.

On the positive side: the hotel itself is located in the heart of quaint St. Michael's; in walking distance of the best restaurants; the waterfront area; the St. Michael's museum; and the shopping area. The owners were very friendly and otherwise accomodating. The complimentary breakfast was of the highest quality and definitely not your usual B&B fare. The owner/chef took great pains to serve different and creative foods, such as a sumptuous stuffed French toast.

Room Tip: Request the largest room in the B&B, the 'Chesapeake', or at the very least, request a r...
