“A Gem of a Restaurant in St. Michaels”
Reviewed June 1, 2014 via mobile

After spending the day in this eastern Maryland picturesque water community, we decided to have dinner in St. Michaels. We randomly chose Theo's and after the meal was glad we did. From the welcoming hostess to the knowledgeable server to the beautifully prepared meal, we were impressed with every aspect of our dining experience there.

“Great steaks”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

The meal we had there was great. The steaks were perfect and very tasty. Get the local Lyon Distillery rum while there. They just got it on the menu. The prices are a bit high, but worth it for a great meal!

“A wonderful dinner, both food and service”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

My wife and I spent the Memorial Day weekend in St. Michaels and at the recommendation of a good friend tried Theo's. We have thanked our friend for the recommendation. The food was delicious, from the appetizers, the steaks, the vegetables, twice baked potatoes, and the desserts. We even talked about how long it would take just to drive down for dinner at a later occasion, the food and service was that good!

“Only OK and Not Worth the Price”
Reviewed May 27, 2014

We recently had dinner at Theos. The service was adequate as diligent staff tried to make up for inadequate staffing levels. The atmosphere is OK if a bit sterile (at least upstairs). The main problem was the food. It was fine, OK, adequate but not even close to being worth the cost. Really, $58 for a New York Strip Steak? And then another $3 if you want a sauce with it? Plus additional costs for any sides?

The only Prime beef on the menu was in the specials. The regular menu only listed "Certified Black Angus" which, of course, means nothing. That could be Choice or even Select grade beef. And this is a steakhouse?

Theos is more expensive that the Capital Grille.

Thank you for visiting Theo's and posting your thoughts. We will certainly take your feedback regarding staffing levels, and our upstairs loft continues to evolve as we complete the historic restoration of our building.

Your comments regarding "Certified Black Angus" (CAB) are completely inaccurate. USDA graders inspect black-hided cattle (typical of the Angus breed) and give it a grade. All beef considered for the brand must be the best Choice (top third in quality), or Prime, beef. There is never select included when CAB is graded. This top-quality Angus beef is then evaluated again, using the brand’s set of 10 science-based specifications for marbling, size and uniformity.

The $58 New York Strip you had was one of our USDA Prime Cuts for the evening. Of all the beef produced in the US, less than 2% is certified as USDA Prime. Since we offer that premium product to our customers at a premium price, our standard is Certified Angus, as it combines quality and value to a wider range of customers.

As far as comparing prices, I can tell you as a fan and regular customer of The Capital Grill chain of restaurants (love their giant crock of onion soup), their restaurant chain's steaks are dry aged in house for their own unique flavor. However, there is no mention of grading on their menu or on there web site. There is no basis in comparing prices.

Thanks again for visiting and hope that during your next visit to St Michaels you'll give us another try.

“Wonderful food, service - we will be back”
Reviewed May 25, 2014

We dined there last night and had a wonderful meal. Place is beautiful and well decorated. We sat at the bar - and enjoyed the fried green tomatoe appetizer, short ribs, rockfish and the doughnut bread pudding. Everything was outstanding and the bartender, Heather, was excellent. Perfectly paced meal - and you know a place is good - when all the locals are dining there. We will be back!
