We tried this hole in the wall base on reviews.
In our opinion, it's dirty salty nasty place. Even Any of the area buffet place will beat it hands down. One can check it out...and perhaps never come back.

If you like Chinese food, this is a decent place. The food is good, price is reasonable, the portion has been decreasing recently but enough to eat.

Fabulous food, subtle flavors with underlying spices. Complex tastes for what I had believed were simple dishes. The chef really knows how to layer flavors and textures. I had Kung Pow chicken--an ordinary dish most places but here...so good. The hot and sour soup was again, extraordinary. My husband had pork with leek and tofu, also excellent. Don't expect glamour here, very basic setting and "go to the counter and order" practice. But don't miss this place.

I have been here 2 times after seeing a review by Tom Sietsema in the Washington Post. You should come for the taste of the food and friendly staff. Lunch time there is usually a line to place and order. You choose a table and then line up to place your order. Lunch specials are good- we had the Orange Chicken and chose the spring rool and a special 3 pepper Chicken with hot and sour soup. I would have like to have noodles but the special comes with rice.( i think)
Food was excellent and great value for money. 2 lunches costed us $16. Defintiely recommend it , they have manhy non-spicy dishes too

being from a Chinese family, we frequent Rockville Chinese cuisine restaurants all the time. Joe's is a standard which is comfortable and friendly. It is very authentic which means to some Americans, a bit too greasy. Chinese people LIKE GREASE! In fact, true Kung Pao Chicken is mostly oil, Chicken, peanuts and more oil. Not that its better or worse but don't go to an authentic restaurant with lots of Chinese people and expect dishes styled to the American palette!.If you like Szechuan style, this is good and there are a few true Taiwanese dishes. Try the handwritten specialities which are there because the restaurant got a good fresh deal on the particular seafood item or vegetable (e.g. tiny snails, frogs legs, etc.)
