“SO MANY THINGS TO DO, SO LITTLE TIME @ LAKE NEEDWOOD”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

There are so many things to do at the Park and Lake Needwood for everyone, young and old alike. There are Picnic Sheds and Barbecue Grills for cookouts, Lake for boating and fishing, Zip line for those seeking thrills and adventures, Archery area for those wanting to practice their skills, and Trails (covered by verdant trees) for walking, hiking and jogging.

Located just outside Lake Needwood areas are the Needwood Mansion and the Golf Course for those wanting to play golf. There are many trees in the Park and Lake Needwood so one feels that she is out in the country and not in the busy suburbs of 'Rockville and Gaithersburg.

I highly recommend a visit to the Park and Lake Needwood for everyone. You would feel refreshed and energized after your visit. Spend the day there, enjoy and relax!

Note that there are fees to be paid for the sheds/barbecue grills, Zip Lines, and boat rides. These fees are needed to help maintain the Park and Lake Needwood. Fishing areas, trails, playground are all FREE!

“Nice getaway in middle of MontCo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Sorta hidden getaway in middle of Montgomery County. Good sized lake with surrounding parkland for picnics, etc.

“Caution!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Normally this would be a five star public park but "Visitors Urged to Use Caution and Avoid Ingesting Water at Lake Needwood Due to Elevated Microcystin Levels.
Microcystin, a toxic substance produced by blue-green algae (cyanobacteria), has been detected in Lake Needwood. Water that contains microcystin can cause severe liver damage if ingested. Please avoid all contact with the lake water, and do not allow dogs or other pets to swim in or drink from the lake. Swimming is prohibited at all times in Lake Needwood." If water activity is your objective, I would recommend Senaca Creek State Park as an alternative.

“Nice hiking trails but a troubled lake.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Lake Needwood is a pleasant spot to spend an afternoon with your family. The trails are well-defined and shaded and go on for quite a distance. However, when it comes to the lake, you will often find notices posted noting that the lake is off-limits due to the toxicity of the algae.
