We were there for Valentine's day weekend and it was perfect. We enjoyed our stay so much, we actually got my parents a weekend as well for their birthdays! The food was phenomenal, very quiet and scenic location, adorable town with a couple fun spots for night time - totally worth the trip!

We just returned from our second wonderful stay at the Inn (our first being 2 years ago). It's the perfect place to get away from it all. We take our 2 golden retrievers and stay in the Yarmouth Cottage. The dogs love running after the geese, swimming in the creek, and playing with the resident and visiting dogs. We love the relaxed, casual but very beautiful accommodations. Joanne and Jim are very easy to talk with, offer good suggestions and insights into the local area, and make a delicious breakfast. We feel at home in the Inn - welcomed, comfortable, and our privacy respected. We hope to return soon.

The Inn is a treasure, both for its beautiful building and the tranquil gardens and grounds. It is obvious that the proprietors enjoy interacting with their guests. Both are gregarious characters.
This is an ideal place for a restful stay in a true country retreat.

My labrador and I stayed at the inn with a group of wedding attenders. We stayed in one of the pet-friendly cottages and were delighted at all the amenities. My friends were married at the inn, and we stayed two nights and had a number of wonderful meals with Joanne and Jim. Wow, what delicious food! "Rockin' Crabcakes" indeed do rock!

The furnishings and decor are gorgeous, and the surrounding land and gardens are impeccably cared for.

The owners' dogs do run off leash all the time (and are behaved quite wonderfully), so if your own critters are not friendly with others, you may have some issues. We had no issues whatsoever, and the grounds and dock at the creek were ideal places to play.

Thanks, Jim and Joanne, for helping make my friends' wedding so special.

We were very eager to stay at the inn, particularly since it was pet friendly. The property is very beautiful and serene, and the cottage we stayed in was very modern yet very relaxing. Jim, one of the proprietors, was very gracious upon our arrival. We checked in on a Sunday (October 12-13) but planned to stay for several days, but we checked out early. We were informed our cottage did not have any television service as the previous guests had somehow disconnected the service. We were told it would be fixed, but it was not. We were not too concerned as there were other things to do. We were surprised when we were not given a key to our cottage. I understand Kent County has a virtually non-existent crime rate, but still we were not comfortable with this. We had two dogs, and upon arriving Jim’s dogs greeted us off leash. This was not too much of a concern as our dogs are always on leashes. Jim advised us the guests in the cottage across from us had a dog, though he did not know anything about the dog. That evening when we went out to walk our dogs (on leash) the other guest was walking her dog of leash. That guest’s dog attacked one of our dogs, and the owner was not able to get the dog away easily. Thankfully our dog was not injured, and thankfully our dog did not harm the other dog. The woman simply said “Monty should have been on a leash” but she did not apologize. After these issues, we decided we would not continue with our stay. We were extremely disappointed at this experience, but would not necessarily decline to recommend the inn. Just be aware if you bring a pet there are various dogs off leash, there may or may not be all amenities promised, and while it is a very laid back area (which is of course very nice) you may not receive a key. These things may not bother others. Again, we are not recommending avoiding the inn, just be aware of some potential issues.

HCInnkeepers, owners at Inn at Huntingfield Creek, responded to this reviewResponded October 23, 2008

We feel compelled to respond to this review.
1. T.V. issue: Direct TV box malfunctioned, was not repairable and Direct TV was not available for service for several days.
2. Unfortunately, doggie issues can but rarely occur. Fortunately, in our case, this is the first incident of its kind. Keeping visiting dogs on leash is our recommended advice.
3. Keys are available, but virtually no one requests them. Guests enjoy the fact that we live in a safe and rural area.
4. Kindly check other reviews for cleanliness ratings. We have excellent housekeeping practices and take them seriously.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim and Joanne Rich
