We enjoyed a 3 day mid-week visit to this beautiful old B&B, which allowed us a relaxed visit the centuries-old fishing village of Smith Island, an hour tour boat ride from Crisfield; a visit to the bustling beach town of Ocean City, MD; and a day exploring the eastern shore National Park of Assateague, with its miles of wide beach and wildlife-including the famous (and numerous) wild ponies.
There are very good small restaurants near the Hayman House, including Italian and Chinese family operations. The Grant family, owners and operators of Hayman House, are knowledgable and can be relied on to point you in the right direction. Kim Grant is a fine cook and talented interior decorator-the Hayman house is remarkable for its fine furnishings of period furniture.
Breakfast at the Hayman House is excellent in preparation and selection. Kim has a sense of adventure and inventiveness in her cooking. Her son Josh, a highly accomplished pianist and singer, is beginning the restoration of the baby grand piano in the parlor. We hope to be there when he plays it again.
There are numerous B&Bs in this rural part of the eastern shore, but none is more well furnished or comfortable. A visit to Hayman House will be remembered as a relaxing visit to an historic small town.
